Five of his sacks last year came against the Raiders and Lions. He was shut down in several games including our playoff loss. It is not just about stats though. He will go for long stretches where he has no impact.

Maybe that will change this year if Meeks stops having him drop into coverage and turns him loose to rush the QB. I hope it is true because we are going to pay him a boat load of money either way.

    It sure isn't.

Like you wouldn't bitch if he played well against other teams but 'didn't show up against the raiders/lions, who suck'.

If he showed up in big games and coasted against the scrubs then I would like that better. A couple of big plays against the Cards early on in the playoffs might have made a big difference.

Last year by Peppers was fine. People had legit reasons to think he was a waste of space for his mid-2006 and entire 2007, and that stretch was pretty fucking weak.

There was a lot more wrong in that game than just Peppers.

Agreed but if he is going to be paid like superman he needs to show up in the big games.

Lots of players get paid then don't perform to a level that some believe earns the money. Obviously, Hurney and Fox disagree with your assessments. They know when his primary responsibility is something other than rushing the QB and they know how frequently he performs those responsibilities at an elite level. They are willing to reward him for that. You don't have to agree with it but blaming Peppers for taking the money is stupid.

I just wonder if having Peppers is as good as having the three other guys we could afford to sign if we did not have Peppers......

There's still only so many roster spots. You don't gain extra spots by replacing big contracts, nor do you get to "start" more players.
