Yeah Bob Kemp does a good show. I also like Todd Wright, he does a similar-type show with a dedicated call base who 'get the show.'

edit: Isn't Kemp the guy who some nights starts off by asking callers what's been good in their life recently? I like that, tends to put this sports shit into perspective. Wright and Kemp both tend to talk about things other than sports which is good in a sports talk show imo. My favorite things about Jim Rome are when he gets into a pop culture rant about something or other, it just makes the show a lot more entertaining. Of course those rants should only be done by professionals, when Celenia is ranting he requires a strong host like Gary Williams to reign him back in. A better host can stray a bit, get back on topic and make a strong point. A lesser host babbles.

Is Bob Kemp even around anymore after leaving Sporting News radio? He was in Arizona somewhere after that but never read about him after that. he was very good.

No, that is not Kemp. That's the guy that's on now. Maybe his name is David Stein, not sure. But it's not Kemp. He was a "One on One" network guy. When he left to go to Arizona, a guy named Kevin Wheeler took over and then the network became "Sporting News". I think Wheeler was a college pitcher at Miami (FL).

Both were easy to listen too, althought Wheeler did have some regular callers that thought their opinion was a little too special for my taste. I guess I thought they called too often. Some called every night.

I still remember Kemp loading up on the Cubs during the first Kerry Wood recovery from surgery. He was very strongly opposed to them bringing him back too soon and taking a chance on ruining a young player that had great potential. Kemp sounded like a hugh baseball fan. Also, he talked about gambling alot.

Just a couple of thoughts from my memory bank.

Oh, one more thing. I can't listen to this Stein fellow. I tried, but this whole "what's your bang" and "tell us something postive in your life tonight" got really old and silly really fast. Also, does anyone else hear the constant faint beeping noise they play under him? Can't listen anymore.

Yeah, you're right, it was David Stein. Realized it wasn't Kemp once I saw how long he had been out of the business. I can't listen to Stein anymore just cause he comes on the overnight shift, once I started getting up at 5:30 to go to work that became impossible. Still he's a breath of fresh air compared to the shit we get here locally.

WFNZ used to have Papa Joe Chevalier on monday nights from 7 to 9, but that was 15 years ago. I liked his show because he shared my hatred for the cowboys.

I actually don't mind Frank & Buck too much, but they need somebody who knows what they are doing guiding things. They obviously have insights into what goes on that most guys don't, but they just need help.

Mac & Celenia wanders off into silliness too often.

Packman is a sancitmonious douchebag and usually the only entertaining part of the show is the whiner line.

I was thinking the same thing...these two might actually be worse than Frank and Buck ( god help us all). Switch over to 1660 for Cowherd.

I have found myself listening to WFNZ less and less as time goes by. I can't remember the last time I listened to more than three minutes of Packman. It's amazing that you can go without listening to Packman for three months and when you turn it on there's Johnny from Effingham or the get some guy. I sincerely punch the mute button while I search for another channel because it's too painful to listen to. They laugh too much and too hard at their own jokes. The show is old and stale and basically repeats the same material ad nauseum.

I won't criticize Mac because he seems to be a nice guy. However, Celania was clearly better when paired with Gary Williams.

Frank and Buck talking about anything other than the NFL is unlistenable.

Wonder when management will make a change? IMO, drive time is the biggest problem. Wish they'd make a change.

Moved from Charlotte about 7 months ago to Minneapolis.....Not that MSP is a great sports town, but didn't realize how bad Charlotte was until I left. I go to WFNZ.com every so often just to see how far they've fallen since I've left. I guess they figure you either get good sports radio or cheap sports radio. Maybe sports radio should have a salary cap too... Packer's contract is keeping them from paying any additional talent. Are they still simulcasting most of the day between FNZ and FNA? At least big sports station here gives you the option of all local coverage or all national coverage.. KFAN is all local from 6 to 6. The Score is all national with FOX sports.

...and aren't there enough retired pro athletes in Charlotte to put on a show that's listenable?
