Wesley College's Larry Beavers has agreed to terms with the Carolina Panthers on a free agent contract.

Beavers was contacted by Carolina after the NFL draft and will report to the Panthers at the end of this week.
"It feels great," Beavers said. "It's something I've been working really hard to get to, working up to the draft. Success doesn't come to you. You have to go to success."
Beavers will work primarily as a return specialist with the Panthers after a record-setting career at Wesley.
He holds the NCAA all-division records for kickoff return touchdowns (10) and total return touchdowns (13).
He led Division III in kick return average (39.5) and averaged more than 29 yards per punt return last season.
While nearly every NFL team had expressed interest in the Annapolis, Md., native, the Panthers sent special teams coordinator Danny Crossman to meet with Beavers.
Beavers also started at receiver, leading the team with 598 yards and tying for the team lead with 30 receptions and six touchdowns last season. He was named an All-American by the Associated Press, the American Football Coaches Association and D3football.com.

oh well. He sounds interesting. DivIII isn't shit, though, and we did draft a potential returner in the 4th.

We signed this guy before minicamp, right?

He was at minicamp. Hurney scouted him personally, was the story then.

He's intriguing, but likely is destined for the PS this year. Despite being a dominant returner in college, Rhyne Robinson struggled with the adjustment to the NFL from a small school in a relatively small conference, yet his competition was still at a much higher level than Beavers'. So while he may have the skills to eventually be an excellent returner, I think Beavers will need at least a year just to figure out he can't simply outrun everyone at this level. Not to mention he will need to bulk up a bit to be able to handle the pounding he'll take in the NFL.
