BohA sent me mail telling me they were raising my rate. I called them and told them to fuck off, I decline their offer. Havent used the card since and still have 7% rate. I can still use it but the moment I do...up goes the rate. Other card cancelled beacuse I havent used in two years. Oh well. Paying this bitch off and will only use a card when absolutely necessary and pay that fucker off ASAFP.

Silver - at least you dont have to worry about wage garnishment :reb:

same happened to me with a card, sent me an offer that I wouldn't be able to use it if I keep the APR at 6 percent, so I said fine.

Who's your attorney Lionel Hutz from "I can believe it's a law firm"?

Why woud you ruin your credit over this? Just stop using the card. If you have a balance you are carrying you can refuse the new terms and pay continue to make minimum payments.

Don't cancel it either. That hurts your credit as well. Just pay it off and never use it again. That's your best and only revenge.

credit cards are only good for borrowing money interest free for up to 45 days.

That's how you get them back.

Don't fly (thanks to my wife) and debit card for hotel. Never had a problem. If we were doing it a lot, I would probably open up a separate checking account and just have enough money in there to pay for those things and nothing more but we honestly don't do more than 1-2 trips a year so it's not a big thing at all to use our debit card. Some of them require the first night when we book but others haven't required anything and don't put any kind of hold on it. I'll always ask what their policy is and just make sure I have enough in there to cover whatever they will do.

Credit cards are extremely useful, just pay the bill in full every month. been doing that since i got out of college. you can get rewards points, too.

Do debit cards offer that stuff? I just got $350 from BAC. They pay me to use their money.

So far based on many of the posts on this thread and people calling into Clark Howard/Ramsey shows, they aren't being too useful for many. Just wait until they start charging annual fees (and that is coming) as they are about to make sure people who pay off their monthly balance put some skin in the game too.

I mean, if they were so useful, would Washington really be passing laws for tougher rules around the practices of these companies (and for the record, I completely disagree with Washington doing anything but there is a reason they saw a need to react).

Furthermore, according to a study by Dunn & Bradstreet, the average user of Credit Cards spends anywhere from 12-18% more so even if you are above-average, you are still likely spending more than you otherwise would (according to their study at least). McDonald's also reported the same finding. Customers using plastic (even debit) would spend an average of $7 while cash would spend an average of $4.50. So, on average it sounds like getting $350 back would still be a net loss for most (don't know your situation but it sounds like on average that the banks are winning by having people spend more than they otherwise would). Do you really think they would just give away $350 if they weren't making it up somewhere else in the process and like I said, they are about to get rid of the 'free-loaders' that have been able to be disciplined enough not to overspend?

I just think the best way to not get bitten by a snake is to not play with them. I haven't used a Credit Card in over 2 years and $350 isn't exactly life altering. I've saved way more than $350/yr by using cash to negotiate.

I figured it was debit. Doing that scares the crap out of me though as it's a direct link to your checking account and harder to get money back if you ever need to.

I've gone as far as to get rid of overdraft protection via a savings accout linked to my checking account for fear that someone could steal my checking account and go through it right into my savings account.

One additional thing, it completely wouldn't surprise me if vendors start offering a cash discount soon. Much like some gas stations are already doing by offering a cheaper gas price for those paying with cash.

I agree. I get a week or two worth of free hotel stays each summer via hotel points. I try to pay all my bills with my credit card and then pay that one cc bill completely off each month. Beats the hell out of paying multiple bills. Now, I just wish they would let me pay my mortgage with my cc.
