I agree the loss was not Ward's fault, but the above statement is ridiculous. Ever played goal before? Goaltenders will tell you stopping a backhander is perhaps the toughest shot to stop because the shooters body is not square to the net. The puck can go anywhere. Soft or not, Malkin's shot was perfect. Being compact when sliding post to post is impossible, and also stupid. Compacting yourself when going side to side covers less net than trying to spread out and cover more.

You sound JUST LIKE the Devils fans after game 1... or was it the Bruins fans?

    Crosby better watch his knees.

Hey, I didn't say it was easy! And when I say soft, I mean by Ward standards. I'm not bashing the guy and there are few goaltenders I would rather start a franchise with. But I bet if you ask Cam if he should of had it, he'll say yes.

I wish I could play goal, but I'm a big fella that has no business going anywhere near frozen ice.

Soft or not the Canes need to jump on the Pens early instead of getting behind 2-0 so quick. The offense has cooled

Think Cole and Ruutu will be back? I thought you guys would be more pissed, especially with the knee-to-knee on Cole. I didn't think the Ruutu play looked bad, but I can't find a replay. It looked to me like he was trying to trip Ruutu up, not close to an intent to injure. But Cooke...

While no one was ready to discuss the extent of injuries to forwards' Erik Cole and Tuomo Ruutu, the feelings of the team at Hurricanes practice Tuesday seemed to indicate that Carolina should be prepared to do without either for the foreseeable future.

"You've just got to be able to move on," said Hurricanes goaltender Cam Ward. "I know it's an opportunity for other guys to step in and fill those roles in and really rise to the occasion."

Carolina lost both forwards to ‘lower-body injuries' during Game 1 of their Eastern Conference finals series with the Pittsburgh Penguins. Ruutu left after only three minutes of ice time while Cole appeared to suffer a knee injury in the third period when he collided with Penguins' forward Matt Cooke. At practice Hurricanes' head coach Paul Maurice said that Cole was possible for Game 2 Thursday night while Ruutu was doubtful, but he was not ready to make a concrete diagnosis.

"It happened 12 hours ago, we're not going to know for a little while….Usually they don't take my medical opinion anyways," Maurice told reporters.

In my opinion, BOTH were dirty plays. Rutuu was injured by a slew foot, which is bush league and a match penalty. NO CALL, but no suprise considering who we are playing.

Cooke is the same mofo that gave Walker a concussion earlier this season and is known for these kinds of incidents, so it is no suprise he did this to Cole. I think Cooke will soon be introduced to Walker and/or Conboy in game #2.

I'm not making a big deal out of it for two reasons. First, the hockey gods have a way of evening this shit out. Maybe Malkin blows out a knee, maybe Crosby breaks an ankle... somehow balance will be restored.

Second, I don't want to sound like the Buffalo fans in 2006 who cried incessantly that the Canes were beating AHL level defenders due to injuries. You have to have depth to win, which the Canes will prove in game #2.

    Canes in 6. :punk:
