Denver trading Iverson for Billups is looking like one of the best trades of the year.

One of the best trades ever. You trade a ball hogging thug for a team player that makes you better and your clubhouse a family.

One of the best trades ever. Hard to imagine how badly that trade backfired for DET, especially if they can't bring in a big-time player with AI's expiring contract.

If DEN wins a title this year you can lay all that thanks to Chauncey Billups, and if they do win a ring you have to start considering Billups as a fringe HOF player.

I wish we could just ban that word from use in the context of the NBA.

Iverson was never a point guard. He was a small shooting guard. Emphasis on shooting. The one year he made it to the finals, Brown played him at shooting guard. Karl tried to mold him into a point guard, but he never bought in.

Billups is a terrific playoff point guard. You aren't always going to get to run in the playoffs, so its more half court, which was Denver's weakness. Now its a strength. If Melo is hot, or has a favorable matchup, he gets the ball. No one can guard Nene on Dallas? He gets the ball. JR is hot? He gets the ball. And if nobody has anything going, then Billups will create his own shot.

I think its going to be a while before Joe Dumars can find a replacement for Billups. Having a whole lot of cap money doesn't mean anything if all you can buy is second tier players.

And when you get down to it, what player really wants to play in Detroit these days. If I was an NBA player the last place I'd want to play is shithole city like Detroit.

No kidding, that's the first thing I thought about when Stafford got his money. He's going to have to build a castle with functioning moat and drive a chevy caprice to work or some other pos car. I would not want to be a professional athlete in Detroit right now. Imagine living in Detroit with a salary like that splashed all over the paper, can you say target?
