like the picks, and think they will contribute; however, not at all enthralled with the trading away of the 1st next year in light of the struggle we may have with the schedule.

Pete Prisco from CBSSportsline gave us a C+

    Carolina Panthers analysis Grade C+
    # Best pick: Second-round pick Sherrod Martin is an athletic safety who can run. You need that in a division with Drew Brees and Matt Ryan.

    # Questionable move: Trading a 2010 first-round pick to get Everette Brown. I like Brown, but he is undersized at defensive end.

    # Second-day gem: Some expected Duke Robinson to be a second-round pick and the Panthers landed the Oklahoma guard in the fifth.

They didn't have a first-round pick because they traded it for the chance to draft tackle Jeff Otah last year, but they made some nice moves to get some impact players. Trading next year's No. 1 is always risky.

I give it a C. I think it was an average draft. I think we've given ourselves more options at D Line, corner, and offensive line, which is good. On the other hand, I don't think any of these guys will ever be elite. Typically you don't get that without a first rounder (unless you get lucky), and we've given away next year's #1 for a one-dimensional rusher.

My favorite pick is Robinson at five. If he ever gets his shit together, him beside of Otah will be a lethal run blocking combination.

My lest favorite pick is Brown, mainly because of what we gave up to get him.

I'm surprised there isn't more vitriol here about the Brown pick. Hope he turns out to be a hell of a player because with our schedule and (potential) QB problems/Julius Peppers circus it wouldn't shock me for that to be a Top 10 pick.

It just pisses me off that all we could get for a 1st round pick is a mid-second and a fourth. I don't think we got a lot of value for that pick comparatively, although I've long held that 1st rounders are extremely overvalued as is. Just feels like we gave up too much for the 44 pick in the draft.

That said, we did well with the picks we had and I'd give us a B.

C- but wanted to grade a D+. Only 1 player that may start in the next 2 years. I'd say that's a poor draft.

We have a weak pass rush to begin with and our best pass rusher may not play next year. Getting one of the top pass rushers in the draft is a good move.
