This. I think Jake has been so very lucky to be blessed with the WR's we've had. The guy is Bret Favre without the arm (aka Broadway Jet Bret) and so we can thank Steve and Moose for just about 75% of his performance IMO. But we're stuck with him for the time being.... :xyxwave:

all i know is i have seen three clutch playoff performances (he lit up top 10 defenses in each of the 3, including hanging 29 points on the unstoppable bears), and handful of regular season wins--oh, and, yea--his receivers favor him.

so, while he is not beyond critique (and, yes, it's debatable that he's worth 20 mil guaranteed), he's certainly not deserving of a perpetual stream of horseshit analysis.

we win more often when he's in.

we lose more often when he's not.

    it's THAT simple.

it's neat that defending delhomme as not being a total shitdick leads to the instant branding of apologist.

you are correct--i think back to 2007, and how incredibly fantastic that was.

If things don't improve in 2009, then there's pretty legit reason to be concerned. Overall, he was decent in 2008. He had a few specific failings that might've had to do with the surgery, or might not have. The losses don't become less real regardless of the reason. But, given what we got overall, I'm still okay with it.

I don't know I'm okay with the size of the contract, but from a business standpoint a starting QB you want back isn't going to take a major pay cut to stay when he's already under contract and he's not in any danger of being released. Given the complexity we've heard of the contract, it's moderately safe to suggest there's a lot of playing time incentive, a lot of things in there that protect our interests and his as well.

Magnus, I agree with you that I'd give him an "overall decent" in 08, I gave him props more in 08 than prob ever before, part of that is my understanding that he was coming off his surgery.

I realize we don't have any other viable options at QB at this time, the problem I have with this specific extension is the amount of money involved, while the stinch is still in the air after that last game. To me, its all about the timing of it, let Jake start 09 with 2-3 good games and then I wouldn't say a word about any extension.
