That is certainly viable speculation. Unfortunately I think it's the worst of all they could have done. They just extended a player who most likely lost the confidence of his fellow teammates with one of the all-time worst playoff performances and paid him BIG and in the process pretty much locked in a player who while good is going to be one of the highest paid players in the league and most importantly DOES NOT WANT TO BE HERE. We've seen what he is willing to give us when he has desire to be here and when he has no motivation... 07 vs. 08 (his $$$)....

The team may have once more hurt itself for a good bit (Gilbert trade) and Fox may be seeing his job here go out the window in one sweeping move....:39:

Reed is reporting we will have 5 mil of cap room. Now we can have a money party and go get some.

I think it sends a message to any trade partners that we can get under the cap and that we are not backed into a corner....

I was refering to the impending monster Peppers deal. All these teams keep trying to low ball us like we have no other options, pay up or go to the end of the line.

No doubt the Arizona game was a major cluster fuck, but how can you say he's lost the confidence of his teammates? That's a huge stretch.....

    Nuts.

OK, here's a little more chum for the water, because I know the anti-Jake crowd has to be apoplectic right now.
Say what you want about the guy, but he wins. Since he took over as the Panthers starter in 2003, you know how many QBs have more?
Four. Guys named Manning, Brady, McNabb and Roethlisberger. Decent company, it seems, especially considering the year off for Tommy John surgery.
You may not think much of his skills, or his risk-taking, or that last game. But he's their guy, always has been, and now is through 2014.

    Good Lord.

I posted on this message board after the 2006-2007 season that the Panthers wouldn't win another playoff game with Jake as the starter. I stand by that which means, potentially, we may not win another playoff game until 2015, by my estimation. Bee-yoo-ti-ful.

Ugh, the Panthers need a solid QB that won't cost them games.

Jake Delhomme sure as hell isn't that.
