While I understand it's a 'clever' nickname, how exactly do Tarheel fans even project this amount of hatred towards Dickie V? I can't stand him myself, but it's clear to anyone who's listened to an ounce of his babble that UNC is at least 1b to Duke in his mind. The way he pimps both programs is annoying as all hell, but I really don't see a lot of separation between what he says about Duke and what he says about UNC.

The UNC fans sure do hate him though, just comes off as really hypocritical or badly misinformed to me.

He is definitely pro-ACC, but Duke is his favorite.

And UNC is right behind them. 1b at worst.

Seriously, I can't stand him, it's not so much that he favors the ACC and Duke is at the top of his list, the fucker is just annoying as hell. I would take Bilas calling any game over dookie V. Sure Bilas may have a slight edge in regards to Duke, but is one of the best out there on what he does.

I think Dick Vitale is probably a spectacular person, and he seems great with charity and 'giving back,' and his passion is genuine. But I think he absolutely needs to be taken off calling games, it's gone beyond parody and it annoys most college basketball fans that I know. A lot of Duke hatred over the years (and ACC/UNC hatred as well) has been generated by Dick Vitale talking about the ACC/Duke/UNC during Pac-10 games for instance. It's not even his hyperbole during a Duke UNC game, it's when he brings up those programs almost at random during games that have nothing to do with them.

I actually think Vitale fits well on SC as a college basketball commentator/enthusiast, but listening to him call a game is beyond annoying now. It's funny when he's calling a pre-1990 college game on ESPN Classic, he is so reserved and intelligent about the game. It would probably shock a lot of fans nowadays if he called a game that way again, I'd love to see it.

You can't see his dook bias because you're not seeing it like the rest of the country. This isn't from a UNC fan, this is from fans of ALL schools. He's extremely biased towards dook and he's not afraid to show it. He HAS to mention UNC now because so many people have called him out on it. It's ok, though, if you don't see it.

He didn't just start gushing about UNC yesterday, he's been doing it for as long as I can remember.
