    Here's what I'm looking for...

I want an MP3 player that'll let me store ALL my music (about 600 CD's) on it. But I do NOT want to have to keep all the music on my computer's harddrive. If I'm not mistaken, Ipods need you to maintain your music on your harddrive for when you "sync" up. I only want to add new music to the player...then delete from the computer.

Ultimate goal is to store my CD's and just plug the player into my stereo.

Any brand suggestions? How many gigs do I need? Maybe I'm using the Ipod wrong...but I hate the syncing feature. I want to plug it into ANY computer and drag the albums I like right onto the player!

You can miss this great deal -- Microsoft Zune 3.2" Red 80GB MP3 / MP4 Player, I've owned 5 different kinds of iPods, as well as the original Zune, and I must say, that this product is by far the best of the group. I spent the day trying to return my iPod Classic (80GB) so that I could get my hands on one of these---and I had to look just about everywhere in town to find one....

you don't need to sync an ipod. Set it to manage manually. It's not as easy but you have control over it, and then you're not listening to the dregs of your music collection.

That's what I've been told. In your opinion...how many CD's will realistically fit on an Ipod with 120gigs?

one gig holds 240 songs. sop 120 gigs would holds 28,800. If you have 600 CDs and they average 15 songs, that's 9,000 songs. can't imagine why you'd want to keep all the songs on the iPod. If anything, wouldn't you want to weed the shitty ones out?

I may not put EVERYTHING on it...but I want to store all my CD's somewhere. Plan to burn everything onto the computer...back it up to an extenal drive and put it all on the Ipod. That way I can get rid of the 300 CD changer and all the other CD's floating around the house.

Need to be able to access my April Wine and Sweet collection at a moment's notice!

You might like this product since you plan to put your music on external hard drives. If your TV and stereo system are next to each other this little box connects to both. You plug a USB external hard drive into it. It plays high def video, almost all music file formats including FLAC, and does picture slideshows as well. You access everything by remote control on the TV screen. Costs about $100 and is smaller than a Wi game box.
