Interesting story. I didn't see this happen during the game, but I agree - if Singler did this - then any very small bit of sympathy I felt for them losing (which was very tiny) - it's gone.

BOSTON -- After watching their bodies get pulverized, after watching them get outrebounded, get dunked on, get confused, get just about run out of the gym by Villanova, there was a moment -- a millisecond -- where you actually felt sorry for Duke.

Then something happened. In the second half, as the Blue Devils were trailing by 11 points, Duke's Kyle Singler made a basket, looked into the face of one of the Villanova players, and called him another word for a female dog.

After that, those pangs of sympathy for Duke were gone, as brief as they were.

More from the article that I thought was funny:

Villanova fans started chanting "We want Pitt!" in the final minutes. They'll get their wish as Pittsburgh and Villanova play each other on Saturday night for a trip to the Final Four.

This was embarrassing for Duke, really. At one point, it was clear Villanova was simply toying with the Blue Devils. With just under four minutes left and the Wildcats up by 18, one of the Villanova players threw the basketball off the back of the head of a Blue Devil in order to maintain possession.

It wasn't necessary. Villanova did it just because it could.

I certainly hope, for your sake, that Carolina wins tonight.

Win graciously, lose with dignity. No point in piling on.

I didn't write the article. Just wanted to share it with everyone. Not piling it on - there's interesting insight from someone who was at the game. I always thought Singler was a douche bag, but this proves it.

Edit: By the way, that's a great concept and one that I completely agree with, but do you realize what site you're on?

I'm not feeling sorry for Duke as much as I'm feeling sorry for myself, I have to eat crow and at least admit the Tarholes are the best team in thier region. But at least with them in still, I have somebody to pull against instead of not caring about the tournament at all. Congrats, your team played a great game tonight. They are a different team with Lawson. Hope if they get to the final they play Louisville.

    Completely unexpected from you. Thanks.

Edit: And on my bracket, I have every team right in the Elite 8. First out of 14 in our pool. Kinda cool.
