i gotta say, i didn't see that coming. i mean, i KNEW that was what sayid was going to do i just didn't think we'd see ben get shot.

so what now? how does ben survive? john locke is evidence enough that being shot doesn't mean you're going to die, so i suppose he could simply survive. strange, then, that he wouldn't have a stronger reaction to sayid, but i suppose ben is good at hiding his emotions.

Great episode last night. Hurley waiting for his hand to dissappear had me cracking up.

the whole thing about not recognizing sayid was funny. you KNOW they had to throw that in there cuz that's what everybody at home was thinking. that whole conversation was sort of an explanation of "how it works" -- kind of setting the ground rules for what the viewer can expect.

the episode was pretty good, but i thought the whole exchange with richard was kind of hamfisted. "he won't remember any of this and he'll never be the same". yes, we get it -- this is how he becomes one of the "others". you didn't have to say it.

it was also interesting how all the oceanic folks (aside from hurly i guess) had a hand in making ben -- sayid shot him with jin's gun; jack refused to operate on him; kate and sawyer brought him to the others. i'm surprised hurly didn't have a more active role, just to complete the effect.

i didn't catch the name that richard was told in the end. i hear charles, but the other name i didn't make out. charles must be charles widmore, but that puts him on the island in 1977. kind of late to father penny off the island unless desmond meets her when she's like 20 or something.

unless, i suppose, he spent time off the island. which would also help explain how he's got a huge fortune.

so what's next? well, they conveniently "erased" ben's memory of the oceanic six so they must be ready to leave soon. charles must end up moving the island at some point which would do some more time bouncing stuff and (theoretically) reunite folks. but what would cause him to do that, i wonder? i think he blames ben for being kicked off, so he's got to be involved in some way.

but the island isn't moving any time soon cuz there's still years before ben kills the dharma folks. is charles leading them that whole time?

i wish they hadn't opened up the time travel pandora's box. the whole "omg, they caused it!" loop thing is kind of annoying. sure, it's a neat trick, but the possibilities are endless once you've gone there. is little baby charlie widmore (desmond and penny's kid) going to end up on the island as charles widmore? perhaps ben kills penny, desmond finds out and comes to the island for vengeance with his child in tow. time slip and POW charles is his own grandfather. which, again, is kind of neat, but ultimately pretty silly.

so they paid a little lip service to some of the charles widmore issues -- like how he has a child off the island when he's on the island and how he was kicked off.

it was interesting to see him as a 40-ish guy. his hair was decidely desmond-esque.

since ben didn't kill penny, i wonder if/how charlie ends up back in time.

Another great episode last night. Nice to confirm that Chang is Miles dad and all but confirm that Widmore planted the fake plane. Hurly re-writing "The Empire strikes back" was classic, and loved the re-appearance of Faraday at the end
