They should of never fired Tubby Smith. All they going to do for Donovan is make Florida give him another pay raise. They better try for Anthony Grant (The dude who was going to replace Donovan when he went to the Magic).

Unfortunate, I had a gold ACC vs SEC topic, not to mention all the history when the New Orleans freaks (Harvey Hornet) invaded the board and berated the few remaining fans for 'not supporting their team.'


I still laugh at New Orleans. Can't wait to see the Las Vegas Hornets.

Do you remember how it was in early 2000? (2000, 2001, 2002, etc.)

 

Yeah, there were a lot more Duke fans and they definitely enjoyed pissing on UNCs grave. I can't pretend like I didn't take part in it myself. I wasn't bothered as much about UNCs resurgence because honestly the ACC seasons were VERY boring to me as a fan. This season for instance was a lot more interesting to me than Duke's 2000 season. Both seasons ended in the Sweet 16, but the ACC Championship this year meant more as the league was better as a whole. Of course, without a win over UNC it leaves the Championship a little hollow.



I'm not sure if the history is gone or not, but it takes a lot of money to keep archives online and searcheable. I wonder if LarryD could ever offer an unabridged site for people who help support the site, or if those posts/topics are truly gone forever.

 

The part that sucks is that most of those dookies are not around anymore. I keep thinking something will stir them up and bring them back, but it doesn't look like it's happening. All we really have now that even resembles those guys (in attitude only - certainly not the intelligent debate) is this newbie interestedwheniwanttobe.

To me, if you were here back then to rub in the Doh years and 8-20 seasons, then you should be here now to endure the last 3 dookie years. Those are the real fair weather, Wal-Mart fans...

 

Last three years haven't been that bad compared to the mid 90's. Duke still has a long way to go to match that or the 8-20 season of UNC. One of UNC's down years (was it 2000?) they were an 8 seed and went all the way to the Final Four though, so even during 'bad' years for Duke and UNC they can achieve positive things.

I agree that if you're man enough to dish it out you should be able to take it. I really don't think Duke fans have a lot to feel down about today. Sure it was a blowout, an ugly game, but most Duke fans I know who aren't hopelessly optimistic thought that Nova would win. This year's Duke team overachieved to their talent imo. Besides Elliot Williams who didn't play before the end of Jan, there were no significant additions to last year's team that by all rights should have lost in the first round.

If Duke loses Henderson they could be in some trouble next year, but I don't keep up with recruiting so I'm not sure who's coming in. I can't see Singler going but he'd probably be a 1st rounder too (although I wouldn't want to have him on my NBA team.)

 

Dook has to feel pretty good about being in the sweet 16, I would think. There are only 2 guys that I know of that are coming in next year for you and both of them are around 6'9", lanky, white, and can shoot from the outside.
Do you read the ACC handbook that comes out every year? I went back and read the dook section again and all of the comments were around the idea that dook was 'back' for the 2008-2009 season. I don't know what they thought would happen, but their expectations were pretty high (including a quote from Singler that they'd get UNC twice this year). I know this year has been better than the last 2 in some perspectives.

I heard some rumors that Ellington may stay another year and that in some circles his fate and Henderson's fate are somewhat tied together. (They were/are friends from before college.)
I guess we'll have to see what will happen. I'm very happy that that annoying Paula Paulus is gone, though. He was the worst player on the team, and everybody knew it but him...
