I dont know what kind of contract Mckenzie is going to demand but if it is reasonable I think it would be worth a shot. We know what he was capable of and even if his skills are somewhat deminished from his knee surguries, I think I would still rather have him than Richard Marshall's stupid penalties. At the very least he could compete with Marshall.

It might actually be funny to go through and look at all the players that get mentioned to be noticed by Panthers staff and see if we actually draft any of them. We rarely do.

I like Gilbert too and could actually be there when we pick in the second round. The only thing is he's a hybrid DT/DE. Unless he puts on some weight, he'd most likey be a DE. However in our new defensive scheme, he could very well stay a DT. A great athlete none-the-less. I think had he played at a bigger school, he'd be a first rounder.

I looked his name up and found WP's 2008 thread, and while it lists a bunch of guys we probably never had much interest in, it lists Barnidge first post, Otah meeting with them, them being at his personal workout, and Stewart, along with Bernadeau. The two 3rds we probably didn't meet with since they weren't expected to be on the radar.

But still, in the end we had a top 20 pick in for surgery before the draft and kept it under wraps.

if he can work on his leverage he wouldn't be a terrible DT, or use him like Brayton inside/outside. It's not the ideal, but it'd add something (and not be a personal affront to Peppers, or duplicate something we have if for some reason Peppers is around the next two years).

But yeah, a little light in the ass right now. He won't make us a better runstopping team inside. And if we're just looking for an end, a 285 lb guy might not be where we want to be.

Check out the video clip at the bottom. He's almost in the mold of Peppers coming out of college. Same knocks (inconsistent, takes plays off, still learning etc..) and the "freakish" label is being used some too. I think he'd be an ideal DE in the old system, but the new system I think we'll be looking for lighter, quicker DEs. As far as a DT, he just doesn't have the build... low and round body-type. I agree though, I think we could use him like Brayton inside and out, on the left side, and use Johnson on the right side if Peppers leaves.
