I got (5) double digit seeds winning in the first round...

VCU (11) over UCLA (6) (East)
Minnesota (10) over Texas (7) (East)

Western Kentucky (12) over Illinois (5) (South)
Michigan (10) over Clemson (7) (South)

Maryland (10) over Cal (7) (West)

The only one of those five that I have making it to the Sweet 16 will be Minnesota in an 2nd round upset over Duke...

    Here is my elite eight...

    Pitt vs Villanova
    Arizona St. vs North Carolina
    Memphis vs Washington
    West Virginia vs Wake Forest

I can't see Minnesota knocking off Texas. Texas is not great but Minnesota is horrible. They would have battled Virginia for last place if they had been in the ACC this year. I doubt the VCU pick over UCLA too but the rest I could see happening. It's going to be fun.

Texas is team that really was disappointing in the Big 12, Minnesota while not really good, is a team that plays the physical style that is common in the Big 10..plus they got Tubby Smith. That's why I picked them to beat Texas and Duke on the first weekend.

VCU and UCLA, there are a couple different factors. One being UCLA has to travel cross country...even though they are getting somewhat of a break playing at nearly 10 pm (which to them is 7 pm)...but VCU is a "balls to the wall" type of team in this setting in terms of their aggressive full court attack on both ends.

Going back to the theme on coaches, look at my elite eight and the coaches involved...Roy, Cal, Huggie, Jay Wright. I think especially in the case of West Virginia, Huggins will have them ready.

Oh Nooooooooo!!!!!!! Obama has picked the Tar Heels to win it all. He picked them last year too and we all remember how that worked out. I wish he had put the curse on someone else, like maybe Pitt or Louisville.

    :crap:

it'll be a close game no matter which team wins. fsu plays up/down to the competition.

duke killed FSU on the 3s -- and that's wisconsin's strength.

With the Sweet 16 set, here are some interesting tidbits:

All the 1,2, and 3 seeds are still alive.

2 of the 4's are alive

    1- 5 seed (Purdue)

    1 -12 seed (Arizona)

Big East still has 5 teams alive
    ACC has two still playing

We are going to see some great games from here on out IMO. Up to this point the tournament has been somewhat bland but it's about to get crazy.
