he's going to be one of the highest paid defensive ends, but he's moving to outside linebacker.... then they're going to use him in blitzing situations where he lines up at defensive end?

i'll take their second rounder... beats the hell out of nothing

I don't really worry about the cost of 1st round picks until well above what we'd ever get for Peppers - around top ten, they tend to be less advantageous moneywise. We swallowed two top 20 contracts last year and it wasn't a big deal at all. Chris Gamble as a late 1st was supercheap.

I dunno. 34 overall just isn't great value, to me. I think we should get something else - at least a 4. They're not stupid enugh to make it a 2 and a conditional 2-to-4 in 2010, but absent a 1st, yes, I'd think that a lot better value.

34 pick is only 560 points of value. I know it's not terribly far off from our original 29 pick, and that's fine, but it also kinda outlines how that's not great value - i.e. you could fit Peppers' value within the Otah tradeup.

And it's the Pats, and fuck. People need to stop giving them sweetheart deals on supertalented players anyway, much less us.

I guess if it gets it done, and we have cap space right now when the market is overblown, no one's buying so money's tight, that's a start, but I do hope it's at least more than 34.

The Pats have 3 second round picks so I think that if we aren't going to get the two first round picks for his franchise tag at the very least get 2 seconds plus maybe a late. I think the Pats have multiple picks in a later round also. Their second rounders are #34, #47, and#58. Heck, I would let them keep #47 and take #34 and #58 with, say, a sixth.

I would do that in a heart-beat considering two first rounders in such an ass-backwards draft year for our needs will just burn future cap room anyhow. Not that any team would actually give us two first rounders at any rate.

assuming this goes through, the pats have added quite a bit this offseason. I think galloway still has some left in his tank, as does fred taylor. Peppers has talent. Springs can play a pretty good cb when healthy. Add this to Brady coming back and they are looking very good.

If they do this, we have dealt two All Pro level DLs for a grand total of a 2nd, 3rd and 5th.

Isn't the question would you keep Peppers as a franchised player, risk him sitting out the season or simply taking the season off as a disgruntled player, absorb his $16 million dollar cap hit and go on.....or do you take what is offered, in this case the #34 pick? Are you suggesting that if the Pat's don't sweeten the offer we should keep Peppers? By the way, I agree the deal basically sucks, but we paid for 7 years of Peppers service and that's what we got from him. He's only worth what someone will pay and it appears he is not in great demand.

I don't think we HAVE to take what's offered, we can try to sweeten the deal. In negotiations it's usually a two party interest dialogue. We have the player they want. If they want him badly enough they may just part with that #58 too. Maybe we throw in another resevere to sweeten the deal. We just don't have to accept what is reported by the media.

If it came down to it, I think the team balks at one second rounder. Sorry, they have too much invested to let him go for that little, even if that means paying him $16M and Peps being unhappy at returning.
