We had better draft well if that happens. We need some depth at DT badly.

Close to it. Signing a free agent for anything well above veteran minimum would probably require extending Delhomme to lower his cap charge.

    So..

Do you think that there will be nothing done with Peppers and that he will return for the 09 season..
Or will we keep being patient and on the lookout for a serious trade??

Well, it wouldn't prevent him from being cut after the season. It actually seems like a pretty obvious move to make, so the fact that they haven't extended Delhomme is interesting itself. To me it indicates that they haven't committed to replacing him or sticking with him beyond '09, but would rather take a wait and see approach.

I thought this was Jake's contract year for some reason. No?

It is, but Collin is referring to them extending him then dumping him after next season.

the team hasn't made all their moves. The top 51 contracts aren't due until August and rookie deals are done in July. I'm not worried about signing the pittance that it would cost to sign picks 2-6 if that's all we have, and if Peppers is gone, the trade covers the first and two top players (or numerous realistic contracts).

The concern for now is getting what's out there now that won't be there later. Handling the Peppers deal correctly (and I'm going to guess that since it's in his hands, he's not going to act quickly) is more important than any single mid-level FA available.
