Prednisone

I got a prescription for it this past summer when I had poison ivy, I've been taking it recently in the mornings because it seems to give me energy all day. It's not a growth steroid, I just wondered if anybody knew if there were long term side effects if I keep taking it.

If so, I'll just stick to cocaine, thanks.

It was prescribed to me once, but I had to stop taking it after about a week...

 

Well, I'm only taking 10 mg a day, and once it runs out I'll quit, doesn't look like it's harmful unless you're on it for a pretty good while.

 

I don't know WHY.. but I know for animals we had to wean them off it because of some surely serious reasons... even if they were on it for a few days they had to gradually wean off.

 

Agree. When I told my doctor that I was going to stop taking it, he said to follow the instructions for the last three days of the prescription which ramps down the dosage....I'll never accept another prescription for it if I have a choice.

 

Makes you have to pee all the time and also it makes you hungry. I can't sleep when I'm on it, but I do love taking it because of my arthritis.

 

It makes some people swell up, look fat.

 

Bone necrosis. My wife had to have a hip replaced because of it.

 

If you are on it for any length of time (greater than a month), your body and face swell (many call it the Jerry Lewis moonface). It is a hardcore steroid that is prescribed for many serious situations, and you will definitely need to ween off it. The other major side effect to tremendous weight gain is you will develop an aggressive behavior.

The drug can be a life saver for many, but it is a serious drug with some serious side effects if taken for a substantial time.

My wife was on it for 17 months....and it was pure hell during that time. But it worked!!!!!!
