    I read a couple of days ago where credit card companies are going to start charging an extra $10 a month on credit cards that continue to hold a high balance but never pay it down.

    If you're having problems making your payments and keep struggling and getting 30 day notices you will damage your credit as bad or worse than defaulting on them. Most people wait to long to seek bankruptcy protection from unsecured debt.
