About time the Heels dominated the state. I've always been upset that Clemson, Tennessee and South Carolina pretty much raided the state for all the top talent. Now with the big 4 all on the rise and schools like App State and ECU doing well it should be damn near impossible for a recruit to look outside NC unless he just dreams of playing elsewhere.

    love the heels

Bunting was accused of having good recruiting classes too. I hope this class lives up to the expectations on the field. I don't want the Notre Dame problem....great class on paper, no results on the field.

all you have to do is look at draft day to see where the real talent is/was.

It's not really excuses, the program is improving by a lot. With that said, if you read the article Franchise posted there is a lot of word to be done and a football program is not a 2-3 year process to turn things around and be a top 10-20 program. Football players can't come in and dominate in most cases like in basketball or some other sports.

    HAHA I agree with that!

My point about Amato and Davis is, both brought it good recruiting classes. To this point, Davis has brought in one class (this one) that was better than what Amato brought into State. Maybe the future will show that Davis continues to get great classes, we have no reason to think otherwise. However we didn't have reason to believe Amato wouldn't either the way he started. I think the similarities are striking. I know many UNC fans seem to believe that State fans are just "jealous" and making excuses for saying recruiting rankings don't matter, but we've experienced everything you guys are right now. We've experienced the hype (in year 3, sound familiar?!) and we've experienced the top recruits (including the number 1 draft pick overall, which Davis has yet to do). It didn't work out well for us. Maybe it will for you guys. However, Butch has not shown the ability ANYWHERE he's been that he's a great game day coach. That's just the facts. Amato didn't either, which is the reason for the above comment about Amato watching the Gator Bowl. Davis had Tate and Nicks. No one else has shown the ability on their roster to carry the team. Maybe one of these signees will, but until then Davis will still be known as a great recruiter with minimal game day results. Which is all too familiar to us State fans. And a big reason that us State fans can flaunt the score from this past seasons game. Much like you guys were able to do when Amato was at State. We won signing day, you guys won on the field. It seems that has now reversed.

PS Good pick up with Bond too. I didn't realize he was a UNC guy until I was reading up on it. Lots of potential there.

if you see the link I posted in National Signing day, you'll see it's not Butch Davis that's the recruiting genius, it's his assistants. After having success at Miami and then going to Cleveland and having 3 superbowl rings as an assistant to Dallas, I still can't see how you can compare Amato's first and only head coaching posistion with Davis. Davis has been HC in 4 different places now, and Amato only had 1. Sure Davis never won the national championship at Miami, but a realistic UNC fan isn't expecting that, just 8-10 win seasons.

I like what TOB said, "I prefer my kids leave with 5 stars instead of coming in at 5 stars"

I like that quote too. And he definitely means that. Cause he sure isn't setting the world on fire with the recruits he's been bringing in. However, it worked at BC, so hopefully it will at State.

As for comparing Amato and Davis, I'm not comparing careers. I'm comparing their time at NC State and UNC. It's very similar to me. Both lived off recruiting and (up until now at least) neither have produced on the field in the way they were predicted to do.
But you can say Amato and Davis have neither won any championship as a head coach. But both have as assistants. Other than that, that's where the career similarities end.
