That's the egregious error of how we've failed Peppers - and that we already fixed it, predictably, with Rucker gone? You think that Peppers is complaining about a move that's already happened?

 

Yes I was ready to let him walk and I would be happy to see him get traded for some high draft picks and or solid players. I am not really sold on changing the defense for him. I just like playing devil's advocate to our resident experts....

 

When Kevin Green was here he rushed the passer a lot but it seemed like he was always getting matched up on a tightend and driving him to the QB. Blocking Peppers with a tight end would be hard to do.

Agreed but Kevin Green did not just line up at DE and take on the other team's best tackle all the time. He ended up getting matched up with a tight end a lot.

Why is it when we drop Peppers back in coverage on passing downs, it is a bad idea? But it might be a good idea to put him back at linebacker and let him work in space. Isn't that pretty much the same thing?

Nice job ignoring the point that you've agreed with earlier complaints about Peppers being dropped into coverage or otherwise not being allowed to just focus on rushing the quarterback in obvious passing situations. What you say depends on the circumstances, and in this case, you are in your Seifert-mode of pledging blind loyalty to the head coach.

The difference is the design of the system. In a 4-3, if you're dropping your best pass-rushing DE and either only rushing three or else bringing one of the linebackers (something we don't do well), then you're generating less pressure as well as putting a lesser player back into coverage. It may have happened, but of the many times Peppers was dropped back into coverage, I can't remember one of those plays ever resulting in a sack for the blitzed linebacker. Meanwhile in a 3-4, those LB blitzes tend to be more effective, so dropping Peppers wouldn't necessarily create less pressure. The complaint for dropping Peppers into coverage here was rarely about Peppers being bad in coverage, but rather that without him we would almost never generate any pressure on the quarterback.

Pretend for thirty seconds that you actually aren't retarded. Internet sites have most of the same behaviors and social interactions that you see in an office, a bar, etc. I imagine you've had a workplace experience where two people just really did not like each other and constantly butted heads.
