It doesn't change the upgrade from being possible.

well, every offseason around here blows when we're being fiscally responsible but it puts together solid teams.

As for that particular scenario, no, I certainly wouldn't want Hangartner starting long term. He became a very valuable reserve here the last two years but he's not worth sinking money into.

But, from a purely fiscal standpoint (since that's how people seem to be evaluated around here sometimes), that would be the way to go. It takes away the big contract, and it takes away the cost of replacement to a low level.

I like how magnus insists that upgrading from the losses of Trgovac and Peppers are both possible because they want to leave the team, yet relentlessly argued that upgrading over Jake was unrealistic because Fox still wants him. This really is coming to be shockingly reminescent of his blank-check backing of the Seifert era.

fiscally responsible means franchising either peppers or gross and trading them for a cheap draft pick (low 1st, high 2nd)

    cut kemo
    cut lucas

    renegotiate jake

I don't like where that leave us.

Not that some of those things shouldn't be done, I just don't know who we replace those guys with.

How many defensive coordinators are out there?
How many top ten quarterbacks are out there?

With both, I said if we can do better, we should. I do believe besting Trgovac will be tough to replace. I also think writing it all off as a "fire Fox" prelude is silly.

But awesome how you follow me around with eight year old arguments pretending you want to talk football.

I just want to be absolutely clear on this so you don't whine later about me misquoting you. Are you saying that Jake Delhomme is a top ten quarterback?

I'm saying that better is a top ten quarterback. The end result is most people don't believe there'll be a legitimate top 20 QB available.

Coaches are available all the time.

and "just to be absolutely clear", yes, players of the caliber of Julius Peppers are very hard to find as well. Of course, I never said otherwise. I said that it wasn't a complete certainty that the defense becomes worse because of it.

You still aren't being specific. If the only players better than Delhomme are "top ten quarterbacks," then are you saying that Jake is just outside of the top ten? Like eleventh best in the NFL? If you could be absolutely clear about what you mean, that would be great.

Just like someone else needs to clear up who the 100 quarterbacks are that are better than Jake....
