We were 12-4 and we still have almost all the offensive staff on board. The guy we replaced was, IMO, better.
We have a shot to replace the entire defensive staff, though our options would've been better a week ago.

I've been away for a couple of weeks. WHo are viable replacements for the exiting coaches?

 

For the open DL coach position:

Dwayne Board, Seahawks DL coach - the former Seahawk and 49er assistant was replaced by incoming coach Jim Mora Jr. The former NC A&T three-time All-American was a big part of a 49er defense that consistently put up good numbers under George Seifert and Steve Mariucci (1990-2002) after having been with the team as a player (1979-1988), then left to be with Mike Holmgren's Seattle squad (2003-2008).
Board has sent ten players to Pro Bowls, and also includes a Defensive Player of the Year (1997's Dana Stubblefield). He was a member of four of the five 49ers' Championship teams.


Keith Millard, Raiders DL coach - a former nosetackle in thie league, Millard may unfortunately be best known for being arrested for disorderly conduct in Minnesota, during which he told cops to "shoot because my arms are stronger than your guns." An All-Pro, all-USFL, and first round pick, Millard leads defensive tackles all-time in sacks in a single season (18), which earned him Player Of The Year honors. As a coach, Millard spent a few years with high schools before being the Broncos (2000-04) and Raiders (2004-2008) DL coach. His units have placed consistently high in sack numbers and overall defense.


For the LBs coach position:

Mike Haluchak, Browns LB coach. His tie to John Fox is clear (he was LBs coach under Fox as DC of the Giants in 1997-99), but has jumped around in scheme and locale since - coaching the Browns (2005-08), was on the initial Jack Del Rio coaching staff in Jacksonville (2003-04), was with the Rams (2000-02) under Mike Martz. He coached in San Diego (1986-1991) around when Marty Hurney was coordinator of football operations (1990-1997). His 25 years of pro coaching experience has all been coaching linebackers, and he himself was a linebacker for USC in the late 70s on some of the program's best teams.

Rick Venturi, former Rams LB coach. The former Northwestern University QB/DB has stability, and that generally ends up in him being with a team a decade, then becoming an interim head coach in the middle of the term (a combined 2-17, he succeeded Ron Meyer in Indianapolis in 1991 and took over the 1996 Saints from Jim Mora following his quitting immediately after the Saints-Panthers game). He's also been head coach of Northwestern (79-80), and defensive coordinator of the Saints (2002-05) and Rams (08, interim). Venturi's units are prepared and tough, and his philosophies are very similar to Fox's.

Keith Butler in his sixth year on the Steelers’ coaching staff after joining the staff prior to the 2003 season. He remained on staff following Mike Tomlin’s hiring in January, 2007.

Butler and Tomlin previously worked together at Memphis in 1996, where Butler was the linebackers/defensive ends/special teams coach and Tomlin served as the Tigers defensive backs coach.
Butler was named the Steelers’ linebackers coach Jan. 28, 2003, after serving the previous four seasons in a similar capacity with the Cleveland Browns (1999-02).

Butler has been instrumental in the development of the Steelers’ highly regarded linebacking corps. The unit includes two Pro Bowl players, James Farrior and James Harrison. Under Butler’s tutelage, Farrior has led the Steelers’ defense in tackles for the past two seasons. Butler has also helped groom one of the team’s defensive surprises of 2007 in Harrison, who was elected as a Pro Bowl starter after the 2007 season. Harrison was originally a rookie free agent with the Steelers in 2000 that re-signed with the team just before training camp in 2004 after a year’s absence.

In 2006, Butler’s linebacking crew helped the Steelers rank second in the AFC and third in the NFL in rushing defense. The unit allowed just 88.3 rushing yards per game and helped the defense to not allow a 100-yard rusher the entire season.

In 2005, Butler’s linebackers helped the Steelers lead the AFC and rank fourth in the NFL in total defense. The sack tandem of Joey Porter (10.5) and Clark Haggans (9.0) ranked as the best for a linebacker duo in the entire NFL.
Prior to joining the Browns’ staff, Butler spent nine years coaching in the college ranks, beginning his coaching career at his alma mater, Memphis, where he coached linebackers from 1990-97 and also coached defensive ends and special teams (1995-97). He then served as defensive coordinator and linebackers coach at Arkansas State in 1998.

Butler, 51, was selected by the Seattle Seahawks in the second round of the 1978 NFL Draft and played linebacker for 10 seasons (1978-87) with Seattle. He started 132-of-146 games in his career and still ranks second on the club’s all-time tackles list with 813.

A three-year starter at inside linebacker for Memphis, Butler led the school in tackles his junior and senior seasons. He finished his collegiate career with 384 tackles and seven interceptions. He was named a 1977 Associated Press All-American and played in the 1977 Senior Bowl and Blue-Gray All-Star Game.
Butler was born May 16, 1956, in Anniston, Ala. He and his wife Janet have three sons—Blake (25), Brandon (23) and Brett (21).

 

Even if Peppers is not coming back .Having Trgo and Tim lewis leaving is a great day in Carolina panthers team history.Trgo defense of coaching was very soft .We will seat back let the QB find the WR and then trying tackle him short of the 1st down.I wish we would hire someone like Del Rio an Aggressive where we would Blitz the QB most of the time.had we played an Aggressive kind of defense against the cards Blitz Kurt warner every time he throw the ball.The outcome and the end might have been different.

I do think nobody wants to be here, but it may well be because we arent fighting to keep them. They may be reading the writing on the wall, and wanting something more secure.

I wish I had good writeups on the DBs coach possibilities. Everyone's got the coordinators down by now.
