Does he belong in the Hall of Fame ? I can't buy it. He leads 2B all time HR's but he was just a good player, not great IMO. Admire him for calling Bonds an asshole though...

If I had a HOF vote I would vote him in. He has been a solid player for a very long time and leading all 2nd basemen in HRs is a big accomplishment. He will never compare to the 2nd baseman though......

I would have to say you let him in. While not as good a fielder as Sanburg, he has better numbers and he is in. You have to compare him to other 2nd baseman IMO. Plus, he's white.

He might get in but no chance as a first ballot guy. He had a reputation as a huge asshole to the media and not the best teammate.

Easily. He put up some of the best offensive numbers for any 2nd basemen in MLB history.

I think him calling Bonds an asshole gets him in the first time.

he's not first ballot, but he deserves to be in. I say he was equal to Sandburg fielding wise, and much better offensively. I liked his brashness and disdain for the media. You never had to worry about Jeff KEnt being an asskisser like so many these guys.

MUCH better is stretching it, but he did put up better offensive numbers. Lets not forget that sandberg played in Wrigley field (the deepest park in MLB). He was not equal to Ryne fielding wise, Sandberg has over a 1% better career fielding percentage. Baseball isn't all about statistics though. If it were Pete Rose and Joe Jackson would surely be in the Hall. Ryne Sandberg was a better player, and a hell of a better leader.

Kent- 5 all star appearances, 1 MVP award, no Gold Gloves, 4 silver slugger awards

Sandberg- 10 all star appearances, 1 MVP award, 9 consecutive Gold Gloves, 7 silver sluggers (5 consecutive)
