After finishing the 2008 season ranked No. 3 in the national polls, North Carolina will begin this year in the same spot in Baseball America's preseason rankings, which were released Tuesday. The Tar Heels, who were 54-14 a year ago, have been ranked in the top three of each preseason poll released over the last month.

In addition to the No. 3 spot in the Baseball America poll, Carolina was ranked No. 1 by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association and Ping! Baseball, and No. 2 by Collegiate Baseball.

The Tar Heels headlined four Atlantic Coast Conference teams in the Baseball America rankings. Clemson was ranked No. 19, Georgia Tech was No. 20 and Florida State checked in at No. 24.

Carolina will open the 2009 season Feb. 20 at the brand-new Bryson Field at Boshamer Stadium against VMI.

Nothing really matters until Omaha. I would like to see the new stadium, though.

It would be nice if they didn't have to play Oregon State.
