if the Panthers offer Gross a mega contract to resign him they need to add a clause that says he gets fined $500,000 for every false start he has. Two today - two crucial ones. He needs to get his shit together. He's worse than that assbag for Tampa Bay we used to laugh at all the time. Who fucking false starts on a field goal?

I had the same thought about Gross vis a vis Turnstile. Gross is a better pass blocker and a worse run blocker, but the ridiculous number of false starts certainly bring the comparison to mind. I hope his ass is playing somewhere else next season. He's not a bad left tackle, but he's definitely not good either. He gives up a lot of ground, which makes Jake jittery, and he doesn't do much in the run game. I thought it was funny when the Fox announcers made a big deal about staying with your blocks on that run DeAngelo cut back from right to left, since Gross had stopped blocking right about the time Williams came through the hole.

He hasn't had two thousand, no, but he's had a fuckload more than any other offensive lineman on the team. I'd bet it's also the most we've had from one offensive lineman since Steussie.

To be fair he had to switch to RT mid game and was lined up on the right when he had the false start.

IN the dolphins/jets game, the clock was not run down because the penalty was not intended to extend the game.

What difference would that make? That's been his natural position since he came in. And besides, that doesn't affect him knowing what the snap count is does it. If that had been an attempt with the clock running it would have been "game over" after the 10 second run off. There is NO excuse for that in a critical situation.

It still has to effect his game, switching sides like that.

I thought that was a poor explanation because it would require the officials to determine the QBs motivation.

It would have been better to say that since the pass was incomplete, that stopped the clock so the penalty did not save any time.

Same with Gross's false start. Since the clock was stopped, the penalty did not have the effect of saving time.

Same with the Saints' deloay of game penalty which happened with the clock was stopped.
