Texeira is a borderline All Star, but 180 million!? Good God. That is the most overpaid I've seen anyone. THat's more overpaid than A-Rod. Not that it matters to the Yankees but still. No way they make the playoffs. Their pitching will not hold up even with CC. I don't see him doing much better than Mussina did this year or even as good. The Yankees need severe pitching help in the bullpen too

Smart move by the Yankees. Teixeira is a gold glove-caliber fielder and a very good bat in the middle of an aging lineup.

All they need now is to give Manny 75 mil over 3 years to complete the off season. I can't think of anything that would make me happier in sports than if the Red Sox or Rays finished first in the East and the Yankees lost in the first round of the playoffs or failed to make the playoffs. That would be golden.

It sucks for baseball, but you can't exactly blame the Yankees for using their monetary advantage. Plus they had a shitload of contracts expiring, so their payroll won't be much above what it was last season. The Burnett signing was questionable, but Sabathia and Teixeira will certainly make New York a more dangerous team.

The owners will never be able to hold themselves back from spending and the players benefit from this. Remember back I believe it was just coming out of a work stoppage Jerry Reinsdorf (sp) was telling everyone the owners needed to police themselves and not spend wildly. What happens he goes out and signs Albert Belle to a HUGE deal.

You're right. They want to win, and to win you need great players. If you're good enough to develop those players through your own farm system like the Phillies did, then it's easier, but those who can't will then try to buy them in free agency.

Amazing that the Yankee's have this much monopoly money to throw around but they have to have the taxpayers put out close to a billion dollars worth of bonds to fund the Steinbrenner's new playhouse...
