Atlanta has told Furcal's agent to blow it out their ass.

because LA offered a bigger contract? Nothing is ever finalized until the contracts are signed. They assumed too much - that's their fault

No, a lot of GMs are saying that Furcal's agents acted inappropriately. I've never heard of anyone in baseball asking for a signed offer from a team then taking that offer to another team as leverage. You just don't operate that way, or at least that used to be the case. Unfortunately it seems like the gentlemen's agreements in baseball are going by the wayside, as evidenced by Boston signing Junichi Tazawa despite major league teams having an informal agreement with NPB not to bid on amateur Japanese players. These days if it seems like if it isn't in writing, it no longer matters.

Why state an opinion as fact?
I`d trust a killer before I trusted a dirty lawyer.

Based on the way the Braves have done business over the years I would have to say they have a gripe. It's true the deal is no deal before the contract is signed and approved but it's also true that you have to have some integrity in contract negotiations. To ask for a document signed and then take the offer to another team is bad business.

Again, as far as I know no agent had ever done that in baseball before.

With Andru Jones being a free agent on Jan 15th, what are the chances he comes back to Atlanta on the cheap ? Just a suggestion, put a weight clause in his contract. Maybe they could weigh him every Friday like they did Bob Horner.

    I wouldn't touch him. Last I heard he's 4-16 with 8 strikeouts in a winter league.

    Sounds like he's getting better.
