Is there a big difference between TVs with 60 hz and 120 hz frame rate conversion (other than price)?

Don't buy a 120 hz LCD without spending some time with one first. Some like the effect but others claim it makes objects look 'faker.'

Try it with both film sources and live sports.

Looking at upgrading an older TV with an HD. I have a small apartment and viewing distance will be between 6 and 10 feet. Saw a Samsung 32" 1080p series 5 for $699. Deal or No Deal??

No Deal,K-Mart has a Samsung 32 inch 720p TV for $499. I recently purchased a 32 inch Sony bravia 720p for $499 and I love it. The Samsung is also a great TV.{Samsung and Sony merged in 2004 to produce the 32 inch lcd TV's} Remember unless you go to a 40 inch or bigger screen you really can't see a difference in picture quality between the 720p and 1080p.

actually, yeah, it can make a difference. the biggest difference would be for viewing films via a blu ray player capable of outputting 1080/24p.

at 60hz, you have to do a 3:2 pulldown to convert from 24 hz which shuffles fields and creates a slightly jerky playback since each frame isn't given the same screen time. at 120hz, you can simply hold each frame for 5 refreshes and get a totally smooth playback.

but for normal broadcast tv, you're not going to see much difference.
