I'll bump this thread in two years or less and we'll se how terrible a hire it really was. I am on record saying it will prove to be a good hire.:burgerflip:

I might very well be but it seems that Auburn was a little lax in the way the whole Tommy quit/was forced to quit/ wanted to quit/ etc. Auburn is a good job, one of the elite jobs in the country. Tigers need to get some offense because they alway play good D.

For once I'm with you. Keeping Tuberville would have been the best thing, but with him out of the picture, Chizik was a good choice. The people who think he sucks because of his record at Iowa State probably think that Joe Paterno is still a great coach too because Penn State is winning (for those who don't know, Paterno doesn't coach the team anymore, his assistants run it and he's the figurehead). Chizik is the guy I would have wanted at Carolina if we didn't get Butch, and I think he's more suited for running a big time program than Turner Gill. Gary Patterson is the only candidate mentioned who I think might have been a better choice, but I understand why Auburn's AD preferred someone who had worked there before.

If you didn't watch more than one or two ISU games, I can see how people would poo-poo Chizik based on the record. They were really young on both sides of the ball and that inexperience showed in thier inability to be consistent at anything. They needed to find a better RB and with that I think they would have been in the fight by 2010...but the worl may never know now.

ISU went out and got what they needed. A guy with local ties and a decent resume as a recruiter/coordinator...same formula they used to get Chizik, minus the local ties. Iroically, Paul Rhoads was the DC at Auburn.
