does a paid collection do to your credit score? I have one that is 15 months old. Embarq charged me an early termination fee when I moved and I did not pay it on time. I did pay it though. I have talked to Embarq and they agreed to remove the account from my credit report but they are dragging their feet on doing it. I just wonder if it is worth calling and harassing them frequently until they take it off or if it is not significant enough to matter. It is the only negative information on my credit. Every other account I have in is in good standing, my credit card balances are too high and that hurts my score but I am working on that.

The effect of it will lessen over time. One hit that you ended up paying isn't so bad really.

Now they are trying to tell me that they can not take it off but not to worry that a paid collection does not hurt your credit score......

It really chaps me that they turned me over to a collection agency over an early disconnect fee. I was on time the whole time I had the service. They hit me with that fee when I was selling my house and making two mortgage payments.

Your debt to income ratio is more important than a single paid collection item, Thelt.

I am not looking to borrow any money for a couple of years so it will be old by then anyway. It is just the point of the thing.

I think that lending institutions are in the process of paying for their sins. It probably wont be long before credit card companies feel the pain.

As for me, I am working on it the best I can. I am still on track for my 2 year out of debt plan.

They follow crowds like a pack of wolves, preying on the weak, old, young, sick, and financially uneducated. That is much larger percentage of the population than actual animals in the field, so the analogy doesn't even come close to their true predatory nature. And they are extremely well connected with the Republican party. The bankruptcy bill was written by MBNA and it was NOT a function of some small percentage of people abusing the system, as it was sold to the public by Bush and the GOP. They get people for life now.

I am not really a fan of the bankruptcy bill either. No one was declaring bankruptcy just because they did not want to pay back their debt. The consequences of bankruptcy were and are too great for anyone to do it without being in a really bad situation.

I did not and do not agree with a lot of things Bush did, especially on the domestic front, but he came under so many attacks that I felt compelled to defend him. I wish he has been a true conservative but he was not. We have not had a real conservative president besides Reagan.

I understand. And just because you are in the minority on social issues, I feel you are in a strong majority, myself included, when it comes to fiscal conservatism coupled with a strong military. That is the successful future of the GOP, as long as it remains transparent and honest.

Bush has been an unmitigated disaster and doesn't deserve anyone defending him. Many of you, including the 2000-2006 Congress, acted as his enablers. He even lied to you about his religious faith, which is marginal at best.
