Playoffs are the best way to find a champion.

I have just proved that with my previous sentence.

I think most people simply don't care that playoffs don't always come up with the "Best Team".

Base it on the AP rankings and I'd be down with an 8 team format.

    Play-in Round (Christmas Eve)

    1 Florida
    8 Texas Tech

    3 Texas
    6 Penn State

    2 OU
    7 Utah

    4 Alabama
    5 USC

Semi Final (New Years Day and/or NY Eve)

    1 Florida
    6 Penn State

    2 OU
    4 Alabama

    Final (January 8)
    1 Florida
    2 OU

They could even use the existing Bowls for the Play-in and Final round and allow the higher seeded play-in winners host the Semi's or select a site for cold weather teams.
Using the existing Bowls would still allow the Bowl committees to collect and allow other teams to still play for a ring and a trophy.
It's doesn't eliminate the traditional bowl structure, it just enhances it to allow for a TRUE champion.

I like it, but I still believe those non-Super Six conferences should be represented with their champions. It makes no sense to allow those conferences to be included in the Division I-A aka FBS and not give them the same opportunity to compete for the national championship.

Sure they can. Utah is in McFly's example. They aren't being excluded at all.

But what about East Carolina, Boise State, Troy, & Buffalo? They're being excluded because they dont come from the Super Six conferences. Had ECU went undefeated, they might have been in the hunt - but it would be unlikely they would have made the top 8, just like Boise State.

You have to include those champions and give them a shot to contend. If you dont, the only thing a school like Troy can only play for is a meaningless Sun Belt Conference title and playing in the New Orleans Bowl for $325,000. They have nothing to look forwards to at the end (except playing in a half-empty Superdome) and cant do anything with their title because they come from an inferior conference.

True...there should be a playoff. And it should be the champions from each conference and then a few at large bids.

Just make every conference go to 12 teams. 2 divisions of 6 each. Play everyone in your division. 3 teams from the other division. 4 OOC games. 1 conference champ game.

Every conf champ plus however many at large's that leaves.

I wonder how many kids rule out certain schools just because they arent in one of the Big 6 conferences.

If not then I think the "Big 6" should simply separate themselves (or somehow get the schools from the WAC, CUSA, MAC, Sun Belt, MWC ,etc..to stop scheduling those schools). Face it...they get all of the perks from the BCS anyways.

Let the ACC, Big East, Big 10, Big 12 SEC and Pac 10 only play schools from each other's conferences...

As it's set up now...only those schools really have a chance at anything. For a "non-AQ" conference team to make it they have to run the table (convincingly), beat a couple "BCS" schools (with less talent because the big 6 schools already get most of the talent and money) and still might not even have a chance.

I have thought of this, and in reality that's kind of the way it is. All they'd have to do is create a new acronym.

The fans hold the true power, if the attendance at bowl games goes on the decline...changes will be forced to be made. Hell, I heard today tht Maryland hs only sold 16 tickets for the Humanitarian Bowl...Nevada has only sold 9...last years ticket sales eclipsed 26,000 with Boise State in a home game.

Other than having the game on the famed "Blue Turf" of Bronco Stadium, what is the purpose of having a bowl game in Boise, Idaho in the middle of winter?

Playoffs are much, much worse at determining the "best team" than a BCS type system. I think you're actually correct that most people don't care about that, it's just the bullshit excuse they give.

Yes, it is. Take a basic statistics course and then you'll be able to understand the mathematical reasons for that.

    Warden:
Stop whining just because I proved that you're a hypocrite. If you want to bash the BCS, then don't use their rankings to make your seeds. Doing that just makes you look like the idiot you are.
