I asuume the public comments he made to the Dodgers about wanting to play near home got the Yankees to jump with that kind of a contract, smart on his part. Now I hope they sign Manny, or they don't have pitching AND offense.

I don't suppose they really have a choice, but with his build it seems like Sabathia is almost guaranteed to have back problems down the road.

Makes you wonder how much he really wants to play in NY. They had to keep throwing money at him to get him say "yes". If the Angels, Dodgers or Giants had offered the 140 mill (or close to it) he would have signed weeks ago. And like Collin said, that weight is a back problem waiting to happen.

and playing in the DH league, he won't do much running to maintain or get the weight off.

He will sustain a injury and get paid millions to sit on the bench like Pavano.

It's deals like this that make people hate the Yankees. $161 million for a guy who has been only good but by no means great sans the time spent in Milwaukee. I'm not one to be bitter and hope bad for anyone but the Yankees have set themselves up for a major disappointment.

I can barely see paying someone that much who plays everyday - this guy plays every 4-5 days. Wonder what the money breaks down per pitch?
