That'd be Jake. Except against all odds, under two minutes left and need a TD to win.

Then, he's magic. He still sucks - but he's magic.

Maybe he's actually from the future.

Somebody should invite his stalker to this thread.

This year has actually been a different story. Jake actually seems scared to take chances this season.

Actually there have been quite a few games over the years that we won in spite of Jake licking asshole. Even this season you could say that about Chicago and Detroit, although I was thinking more of performances like Detroit '05 where Jake gifted the Lions with two interceptions returned for touchdowns, a game we would have lost if Chris Weinke hadn't come in and been surprisingly good.

Look, Jake isn't awful. He's not Rex Grossman. But the reality is, he is very replaceable. There is nothing magical or special about him, he's just a charismatic guy willing to take chances who happens to have played with the two best receivers in this franchise's history. There really are 100 other guys who would do just as well. Kurt Warner was bagging groceries and Chris Redman was selling insurance. Those guys are out there, but most of them don't get a chance and almost none luck into a situation as good as Jake has had it here. Not only does he have great weapons to work with, but Carolina has been an above average team in pass protection every year since he's been here.

Yes, it is correct. You shouldn't even be allowed to post about Delhomme for the rest of the season after your idiotic post during the Oakland game about how most of the team was playing as badly as Jake did. You are insanely defensive about any criticism towards Jake and you clearly have a mancrush on the guy.

state how the league's third stringers and twenty guys who aren't in the league would do just as well over time. Not "could", would.

No, it isn't. 2004. Two games we won without Smith this year. Without bothering with anything else, certainly reasonable doubt against your ideal that it's 100% Smith. Steve Smith didn't give him talent. He didn't have 533 jump balls in 2004 and he didn't have 435 in 2005.

or, you're biased against him. You even tried to get him replaced the year he went to the Pro Bowl and took us to the playoffs, and used a cap number that wasn't factual to do so. In this thread. You, the guy who posts the word "liar" around once a day.

I would say Delhommes pass to Rosario against SD was impressive.

Jake's arm strength is good but not exceptional, so there's nothing he does physically that makes him different from any number of college quarterbacks. We've also established the fact that he has below average accuracy for an NFL starter, so it's not at all difficult to believe that a 100 guys could achieve similar results on that count. Unless I'm forgetting something, that pretty much leaves reading defenses as the sole remaining obstacle. While you might argue that 100 guys can't do that as well as Jake, I'd say from watching the college game that it's not an unreasonable number. Remember, Delhomme was undrafted for a reason. He also sat on the bench for a reason. And while his results with the Panthers have been respectable, I've stated my belief that it's a product of the receivers he's throwing to.
    Yes, it is.
Moose. I'm sure you and many other fans remember the chuck & duck days from that season, and if not, there are some threads here from that time where you can relive those events. Muhammad didn't have his huge year because he was flying past defensive backs with his below average speed or because Jake was firing darts between the coverage. As he does with Steve, Delhomme would routinely throw the ball up for grabs towards Muhammad and Moose usually made the play.
Jake was ass in a can against Chicago, and he wasn't much better against the Chargers until that final drive where the since fired Ted Cottrell decided it would be a good idea to play a prevent. Up to that point he was 15 of 30 for 179 yards. Even if you want to focus on his final numbers, though, his performance was just mediocre.
Considering that Jake doesn't have above average talent by any stretch of the imagination, no, I wouldn't say that Steve did.
Except that I've never said anything utterly retarded about him like you insisting that most of the team played as badly as he did against the Raiders. You accuse me of being biased every time we disagree about a player because you are absolutely - shit your pants - scared of acknowledging your own bias. The proof is in the pudding, though. I credit players who deserve it, whether I like them or not. I also criticize players who deserve it, even if I've praised them in the past. But nowhere do I ever say anything idiotic as you have done repeatedly about Delhomme, because I don't have any allegiance to the name on the back of the jersey. I pull for the team and I want what is best for the team. You certainly care about the team too, but you mainly pull for certain players, whether it's Delhomme or Rosario or whoever.
I was fine with Delhomme being our quarterback when he cost $2 million a year. I stopped being fine with it when he got a ridiculously large contract. Similarly, I am fine with Jordan Gross being a starting tackle on this team at his fairly reasonable salary, but I will not be fine with it even he gets a huge contract this off-season. It's really not that hard to figure out.
