Who goes where? It will be very interesting with 10 teams being bowl eligible.

Anyways, at the beginning of the year, had someone told me Clemson would end up at Boise, I'd have been furious, and maybe even spit blood. Now, after the year it's been, I'd be ok with it. I still think they'll go to a higher bowl.

Everyone but UVA and Duke is bowl eligible. Only 9 bowl tie ins. Who gets left out?

Gotta think it's NC State, even though they beat the shit out of UNC.

State came on really strong the second half of the season, and as I've been told on here, they travel well. I'm thinking maybe Wake. I'd like it to be Miami.

By rights it should be Miami because they won't bring more than 500 fans to a game out of the state of Florida. At 7-5 though they will likely get an invite. Wake might be in trouble because of their small alumni base. Forget State being left out. They will get a bid somewhere because their fans will load the wagons.

The nine teams that aren't N.C. State will get the nine ACC bowl tie-ins. By NCAA rule, all teams with winning records have to be taken before any 6-6 team. N.C. State's only chance of going bowling is to have not enough 7-5 teams around the country fill up all the bowl slots, as some bowl would be glad to have them if they're available.

So, Clemson is 7-5 but 2 of those wins are against FBS teams. Does that still put them ahead of a 6-6 team?

One of State's six wins was against a non FBS school. I know in years past that would have knocked them out of bowl contention.

Do teams still get a free pass every other year where they can use a non FBS win to get them bowl eligible? I can't remember exactly how that rule worked but it may have been phased out.

That's a great question. The rule on bowl game invitations isn't exactly clear on that point, but it looks to me like the distinction between FBS and FCS wins is only made in the initial determinance of whether or not a team is eligible. The guidelines listed on page 9 don't seem to rely on that distinction when governing which teams can be chosen first. It's not absolutely clear, though, so I'm sure it's an issue that will get some media coverage. It's kind of pathetic that the local media hasn't already been researching this.

    wossa:
A team can count one victory against a qualifying (has something to do with the number of scholarships, I think) FCS school per year. So Clemson could only count one of their two towards bowl eligibility. But as noted above, I don't think the FBS/FCS distinction is made when determining which teams may be selected first.
