Are all of the dead with God as soon as they die? Including those who have chosen to live evil lives, who eventually would supposedly go to hell?

I seem to recall that there is supposed to be a time of judgment coming in the future, after Christ returns. That would contradict the idea that individuals are judged immediately upon death & some get to "be with God" & others go directly to hell without passing Go or collecting $200.

If people are judged & sent up or down immediately when they die, that means some of the bad guys would be suffering massive torment in hell for thousands of years longer than those evil-doers who were fortunate enough to be born later. That hardly seems fair.

If I happened to be one of the good guys, & there were people in a heavenly paradise thousands of years ahead of me, I really wouldn't begrudge them that. After all, I'm there & guaranteed happiness for eternity, so I've lost nothing.

But if I spent a few thousand years in agony before some other really evil dudes got there--since we're all there forever, I've just suffered a LOT more already. Now maybe evil is evil, & I deserve all that extra suffering. But I also have this impression that somehow God is supposed to be fair, regardless of everyone else. And that strikes me as grossly unfair.

Not according to the Bible, no. Only Christians are immediately taken into God's presence upon death.

You're correct about the judgment happening upon the return of Christ. That's when "the sea shall give up her dead" and so forth take place (including every non-Christian since Jesus' return to heaven). At that point, they are judged by Christ based on what they knew about Him and how they lived in reference to whatever knowledge they had (Romans 2).

Thats pretty absurd right there. Obviously intelligence alone should not define whether a person be respected in ones eyes or not but what if someone "knows" and "understands" the word but still doesn't believe it?

There is alot of Faith involved in believing what the Bible says, and it starts in chapter 1.

According to Romans 2, they will wait until Judgment Day, when Jesus will judge each person based on what they knew, what they were taught, and how they lived their lives.

What if they were taught by assholes that abused them to the point they cant possibly believe what's coming out of their mouths. What if the one priest you actually had faith in as a teenager was arrested (many years later) for molesting friends you grew up with in elementary school. Kids in my own neighbourhood, it makes sense now when i think back on them being a bit weird and aloof when we were teens. It could have been me, he'd give me and my mates a lift in his car every now and then when he saw us walking home. I remember one day we were slagging mt best mate because he wanted to talk to him personally about a "lost glove". At the time we just thought he was a really cool priest, he didnt set the gaydar off like other priests certaintly do. This asshole was passed on from another parrish to ours because of an undisclosed prior offense.

My own father never laid a hand on me, these pricks of the cloth (from different denominations i might add) slapped me about a few times although i was never actually sexually abused. I actually dreamed i saw the devils face one night after I was slapped across the face a couple times by the fucking Rector. I was also taught by a nun that knew how to use her knunkles too. When they say turn the other cheek, i think they took that as a sign to double up.

CC, don't make the mistake of assuming that all "men of the cloth" are men of God...

    Nothing gets past Jesus. Nothing.

Yeah, its a long time ago now and I have learned that priests are human and do sin too. But the roles of priests in the Catholic Church when it comes to confession and pennance do blur those lines. They are supposed to be men of God, and as a child, well that's what you believe they are. After all, they all say God called them to do his duty.

Lets just say my faith is stronger than my religion.
