He's gunshy after having GMs waste huge amounts of money on other contracts. Their payroll is going to be top 5 with or without Manny. Plus, unless they choose to trade Ethier for help elsewhere, they have a glut of outfielders already. I actually wish the Braves would trade for Andruw, maybe taking on $3-$4 million of his contract in exchange for a nothing prospect. I think McCourt would go for that, but I guess Atlanta isn't interested.

Pierre is gone and the entire Dodgers organization knows it's been too long since they have had a big bat in the lineup. They did the Jones deal for that, but that was an obvious flop. Manny produces people in the seats, merchandise sales, hits and home runs. Pay him what he wants, and cut your losses when he's washed up.

Manny in left, Kemp in center, Ethier in right. Rotate Jones if he can figure out how to play again and lose 20lbs.

No, Pierre is under contract for three more years. Even if you can trade him to someone, which I doubt, it would presumably still have L.A. paying the vast majority of the contract.

that will be what happens or Jones. LA's eaten contracts before and will do it again to keep the young talent out there - they're spending the money on the ball team this time instead of the stadium

You know, the Giants really make a ton of sense for the Manny sweepstakes. They've dealt with headcase left fielders before, they have some money, and they're desperate for offense. I think it would be worth $100 mil over four years to give the fanbase some hope.
