I saw the Sagarin Ratings today and was a little shocked. Everyone's opinion is their own, but this guy has to have a little credibility. He has developed a formula that has gain respect over the years and is published and talked about in many sport circles.

    Here are the conference rankings as of today (10/30/08) as determined by Sagarin;

    1. Big 12

Tough to argue that one, but here is where I was taken back a bit

    2. Big 10
    3. ACC
    4. SEC
    5. Pac 10

The ACC is probably not the 3rd best college fb league yet but they are better than most think. The one thing they have going for them is that they don't have a really bad team. Even Duke is a lot better as evidenced by their win at Vandy. I would say top to bottom the SEC is best followed by the Big 12. The Pac 10 forget it, Washington and Washington State are both terrible. The Big East is the Big Least and the Not so Big 10 is Penn State, Ohio State and not much else. Hey maybe the ACC is the 3rd best.

The SEC is getting by on reputation right now. If Auburn doesn't win this weekend they probably won't go to a bowl, Tennessee is not going to a bowl. LSU is way overrated. They've played two teams who are any good and got creamed in both of them and gave up over half a hundred to both. Their signature win was a comeback 26-21 win against Auburn who now doesn't look good at all. Vandy could very well miss out on a bowl. Florida, Georgia, and Alabama are legit. South Carolina is a 7 or 8 win team. LSU will lose to Bama and lose in the Cotton Bowl to Missouri and go 9-4 losing to all teams who are any good and them losing to Ole Miss isn't out of the question. Ole Miss has gotten better but they are still a 6-6 team and Kentucky played terrible OOC teams to boost their record to go sub .500 in the SEC and get to a bowl game. Besides Georgia, Florida, and Bama the SEC is way way down, but who are we kidding, the Big 10 sucks hard.

The Big 10 ( they have 11 teams, they can't even count) is a big joke.

Perceived weakness of ACC as a conference

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Conference wins and losses over BCS opponents (and Notre Dame) along with their records versus non-BCS & FCS schools:

    ACC
Wins - California, Colorado, Baylor, Mississippi, Miss. St., Texas A&M, UConn, Rutgers, Notre Dame, Nebraska, & Vanderbilt.
Losses - Alabama, S.Carolina, S.Florida, Florida, UConn, USC, Northwestern.
    11-7

    Record versus non-BCS & FCS schools: 22-3

    Big 12
Wins - Illinois, S. Florida, WVU, Wash. St. (2), Washington, Arkansas, Cincinnati.
Losses - Va. Tech, FSU, Louisville, Iowa, Miami, Wake Forest, UConn.
    8-7

    Record versus non-BCS & FCS schools: 31-2

    Big 10+1
Wins - Oregon St., Syracuse (2), Notre Dame, dooque, Iowa St.
Losses - California, USC, Missouri, Pittsburgh, Oregon, Notre Dame (2).
    6-7

    Record versus non-BCS & FCS schools: 25-4

    Big East
Wins - Auburn, Iowa, Notre Dame, Virginia, Baylor, Kansas State, Kansas, NC State.
Losses - Colorado, Oklahoma, UNC (2), Kentucky, Northwestern, Penn St.
    8-7

    Record versus non-BCS & FCS schools: 18-5

    Pac 10
Wins - Virginia, Ohio State, Mich. St., Purdue, Tennessee.
Losses - Maryland, Penn St., Notre Dame (2), Georgia, Oklahoma, OkSt, Baylor.
    5-8

    Record versus non-BCS & FCS schools: 8-8

    SEC
Wins - Miami, Arizona St., NC State, Louisville, Clemson.
Losses - dooque, UCLA, Wake Forest, W.Viriginia, Texas, Georgia Tech.
    5-6

    Record versus non-BCS & FCS schools: 27-1

The Pac10 is the only conference that still plays nine conference games. Consequently, they only play three OOC opponents versus the four played by other conferences (and five played by Big East).

So the next time someone tells you about the gaudy 32-7 record SEC teams have accomplished this season, see if they know how many of those games (to date) have been against "real" teams!

And when they mention the "bad" losses ACC teams have suffered to non-BCS schools, see if they know the Big10+1 and Big East have actually suffered more losses than the ACC.
