Funny how you didn't even address my comment (typical.) You actually butchered it beyond recognition in your quote.

Can you explain why people would still support the politicians responsible for building the arena (when that is supposedly the main problem they had with the franchise in the first place?)

BTW, if my telling you that racism is still alive in 2008 is a shock, then I apologize. You may also want to know that Santa Claus isn't real, your parents lied to you.

For the record, I absolutely DID NOT state that racism was THE reason the Bobcats have failed, and if Collin had read the thread instead of looking to start an argument, he'd know that.

You want to blame everything other than the simple truth that it's a bad franchise of a declining league in a city that didn't really want them.

My main problem is that no one gave them a chance, but I absolutely concede that the Bobcats have been a poorly run franchise from the start.

The decision on starting their own cable channel was absurd, and the fact that they have never had their local games on satellite is retarded (thank god they fixed that this year.) In a market where the cable company doesn't support the leading sports league (NFL Network) it was arrogant to believe people would buy cable (and pay extra for their channel) to see their local games.

Also, the NBA is down as a whole as others have stated. There are plenty of reasons why the Bobcats have failed to catch on, I never disputed that. I should have left racism out of it, but I was making the overall point that people keep going back to. They blame the Bobcats for something the local politicians gave them, against public wishes. Yet they haven't held the local politicians to task for that, hell I think McCrory got re-elected Mayor twice. Obviously he wasn't running with only that on his record, I just always found it odd.

I was in Raleigh when the Arena was built (even as I told people on this board exactly what would happen.) Did the City Council pay the price for that? I'm not familiar with that level of govt at that time.

Anyway, this thread is all over the place. The only reason I started talking about the support of the Bobcats was because of the MLB talk (which pretty much we all agree is a pipe-dream.) The simple fact is that if the Bobcats fail, unless they take the NBA with them it will be looked at as a black eye on Charlotte, and will work against us ever landing an MLB team.

I could throw a list of cities that have lost NBA teams but most of that is ancient history. The point is, once cities start losing teams (the Bobcats would be the second,) they don't keep getting new ones. No one feels sorry for Charlotte and how shitty our NBA owners have been (Shinn is actually pretty damn successful compared to a lot of sports franchise owners.)

Pretty much everything Bob Johnson has done here in Charlotte, Shinn has done in New Orleans. On top of all that, Shinn also wanted to move the team to another city again. If it weren't because of the pure dumb luck of being able to draft Chris Paul, the Hornets would still be the joke of the league.

Having the Bobcats leave would certainly hurt the city in the short term, but it would also free up sports dollars in a relatively large available market. If getting MLB is the long term goal, I think the Bobcats leaving would be a net plus.

To his credit, they did manage to re-sign Paul to an extension.

    What do you mean 'still?'

In terms of years of operation, the Hornets have made the playoffs more years than not. I don't know how they ever were the 'joke of the league.'

Sure they had bad seasons (one really terrible one in NO that netted them Chris Paul) but when talking about 'jokes of the league' there's only one team that fits that bill. It's neither the Hornets nor the Bobcats, it's the Clippers.

I bet every time Shinn hears someone say "Seattle" he starts to daydream.
