For UNC fans

I'm not bashing Butch nor do I hold anything agaisnt him and coming from a State fan, he has done a great job this year. However I have been reading on some message boards that if Fulmer is out at UT, then they are coming after Butch. I know we read Butch is happy at UNC but if he continues to have a good season and Fulmer gets fired, do you think Butch will leave for the UT job?


I wanted to get some UNC views because it seems to get brought up more and more with the success of Butch and Fulmer being more and more on the chopping block.

 

You can lump it with the rest to be honest. Either it happens or it doesn't.

 

You never know for sure, but I'm not at all worried because I don't think the Tennessee job is more attractive than the UNC job to someone like Butch. For a young guy the prestige angle would probably carry more weight, but someone like Davis is likely to value the Chapel Hill area as well as the more reasonable expectations of Carolina fans & boosters. Frankly, while neither program has much of a shot, I think it would also be easier to win a national championship at North Carolina than Tennessee due to the strength of the SEC and the fact that Tennessee doesn't seem to produce a whole lot of high school talent.

There are some posters on gridscape that do actually know what they are talking about. UT will definately give Davis a call. (assuming fulmer is gone) The AD should be fired if he doesnt give Davis a call. Might as well get used to Davis going to ______ rumors because it's going to happen every single year.

 

On packpride.com (NCSU message board) this is the longest running thread (21 pages). It's amazing how they would devote so much time and effort to worrying about happening in Chapel Hill. It was finally locked by the moderator over the weekend.

Anyway, I don't think he would go to UT.

UT has a national championship, Chapel Hill doesn't.

The SEC has back to back champions right now, and the next champion is likely to come from the SEC or Big 12.

Not saying he couldn't get a championship at Chapel Hill, I just don't know that it would be easier in the ACC than the SEC. One loss in the ACC is likely to bump you from the championship race, while you can lose in the SEC and still have a shot at the title.

 

I am a fan, and I sure hope he doesn't leave. Why wouldn't they go after Vandy's coach? He is already recruiting the area and runs a clean program.
