Looks like T.J. Yates will be the QB the next 2 years. That leaves Paulus with only a senior year to start.

I know anything can happen, but............??

I don't think Yates is that great. Paulus might transfer, but I wouldn't be surprised if he beat Yates out for the job next year.

Paulus missed an incredible opportunity to prove himself this spring when Yates missed spring practice and the spring game due to recovery from shoulder surgery. Either Paulus didn't separate himself, or Coach Davis didn't want to unseat an incumbent who wasn't able to compete due to injury. The article below brings out some interesting points.

It's going to be hard to remove Yates if the Heels experience success this year. Carolina also has Braden Hansen (Fr--who will probably redshirt) and a committment from Bryn Remmer (Top 30 QB-2009) and high interest from Kevin Newsome (Top 5 QB-2009).

He wasn't exactly put into an optimal situation. Well, he was, in a way, up 10-3. They went conservative with the run, and luckily, Little busted one for 50 yards.

Once it became a game again, he got a little tight. The interception near the end zone when he had a guy WIDE OPEN at the first down marker was pretty bad.

The final drive (if you can even call it that) was a clusterfuck.

Even though it wasn't an optimal situation, he can surely "shut the fuck up" about being "the man" and deserving to start, like he was after spring ball.

Yates is the man. If he's not playing Saturday the Heels will be in trouble. Hard to say Paulus will never be all that based on one game but he didn't look very poised back there. But then it's his first game so really, who knows what he'll do down the road. That said, if they don't get a more consistent running game then all the QB's are going to be ducking pass rushers the rest of the season.

Ridiculous, not hard. It was his first game action and it came in a high pressure situation against a good defense. Aside from the slant Tate took the distance, Yates wasn't doing much against VT either. The first INT was incredibly dumb, but that's what you get with a guy who hasn't played.

Dang, UNC lost to a team that lost to a team that NC State beat.

I wouldn't give up on Paulus yet. If he prepares all week as the starter and goes in playing from the first snap he would likely do better. Hard for a freshman to come in and get his first action with the game on the line instead of playing fourth quarter mop up duty.

That being said I hope Yates can play. He may not be the greatest (not sure what Collin has against him) but he looks poised out there and has played much better this season. He is confident and the players around him seem to feed off it. He has a big play arm and the Heels are a big play offense.
