Jesus, people take everything so personally around here.

I was just clarifying for people reading the thread, chief, not trying to influence your gaming decisions.

People see Rock Band 2 coming out on Saturday, they are likely going to assume more of those huge boxes they see everywhere now.

edit: Also found out those 20 free songs are coming, but not at launch

Jesus, you took something personally, not sure what... for $30 more than a big box, they can just pick up everything separately, right now. Sorry if that was more than you can handle.

I was just letting people know.

Anyway, if you're using the xbl headset to sing I can't imagine how horrible that sounds. The original RB mic is solid as hell though.

Since they didn't add harmonies, I have no need for a mic. Although, I have no need for plastic music instruments either. Just the game for me, solid track list.

i have a Rock Band issue... songs downloaded on the other PS3 aren't downloading to the new PS3. I can highlite the song and it says 'download again' and I click on it, but nothing happens.

    Thoughts?

    10/10.

    PS3 sucks.

Also, thinking about getting the wireless guitar and wireless drum kit.

He says get a 360 but in reality it's a lot harder to redownload stuff on a new 360 (although they have a new tool that is supposed to help, the drm issue keeps me from buying a lot of stuff online that I normally would.)

The PS3 should allow you to redownload anything on your gamertag 5 times. Some people 'share' their purchases with people online by switching gamer accounts etc, if you have a loyal group you could get every Rock Band song out by only buying 1/5th of them.

I'm not sure why your songs aren't downloading, if you shared them that would be why but it doesn't sound like you did that. You should call Sony and they can probably help you pretty quickly.

    Absolutely!

I'll be picking up RB2, 2 wireless guitars, and 1 wireless drum. I just sold my whole RB1 setup (2 wireless guitars, wired drums, wired mic, game), so I've got cash in hand.

Seriously, no idea what's up on PS3 - PSN is not XBox Live...Microsoft did a lot wrong with the Xbox 360 hardware, but Xbox Live is fantastic. And the games for it are great. And MSFT is pumping cash into getting exclusives and such, so it continues to widen the gap (as the month early 360 release shows). I just can't wait for that native Netflix stuff they're adding in the update this month...

I don't know jack about PS3, but this is plain wrong on the Xbox 360.
It's INSANELY easy to re-download anything on the 360 - signin, click the item (an arcade game, a song for RB, etc.), you'll get a "download again" option instead of "purchase/download". Select it and you're off, nothing more to it.

There is a separate issue for things with DRM, transferring stuff from an old 360 to a replacement one (or a new, larger Hard Drive or the like). That kind of content is fortunately rare, but can include things like saved games (whcih is why I have a small memory card for the 360, just in case I need to transfer that kind of saved content). I've definitely just logged in on a different system and downloaded my games, songs, etc. without any issues, which I understand is the issue you're facing on the PS3.

He's not downloading on the same PS3, he's d/ling on a new one. It's really easy to redownload stuff on the same 360 but that wasn't what I was talking about, obviously.

Still, it's pretty easy to redownload stuff onto a new HD, the problem is the DRM forces you to log into your XBL account to play the stuff on the new HD. If your internet goes down or you take your 360 to a friend's house without internet, you can't play the RB songs you bought on an old (or dead) 360 and you can't play the XBLA games you bought.

The 360 recently brought out a tool to 'verify' your purchases and help you transfer things from an old/dead 360 to a new one, but some people are still having issues.

The PS3 model of redownloading purchases is completely different from the 360. The 360 you can redownload anything you want, as often as you like, but if you ever d/l it onto a new hard drive or machine you'll have to log into Live to use it (or use the tool.) The PS3 gives you unlimited redownloads on the same console just like 360, but it also gives you 5 free downloads onto any OTHER console. This allows you to trade RB songs/PSN games with friends you trust, and allows you to theoretically d/l your things onto a new system. Why it's not working for him I don't know, unless he already shared his songs.
