Still no PS2 compatibility on the 80 gig PS3, not that you had it with your 40 gig.

Just clearing it up for people interested in one.

    Not this new one.

Only the limited edition one that came with MGS4.

Check out the product descriptions on the new PS3 @ best buy

Here's the now-discontinued 80 gig ps3 with MGS4 @ amazon. Note they are selling for like $600, because they offer PS2 software compatibilitty while the new 80 gig ps3's don't.

The only PS3 that can play EVERY game is the 60 gig and 20 gig PS3s with hardware compatibility. The software version is emulation software.

    To clarify,

20 gig and old launch 60 gig PS3 can play all PS2 games.

80 gig MGS4 and newer 60 gig PS3s can play most PS2 games.

The 40 gig ps3 cannot play PS2 games.

The only version at retail now, the new 80 gig, cannot play PS2 games.

    I'm lost...
The 80g $399 model does not play PS2 games. Only the MGS4 pack $499 version does. Additionally it only has 2 USB ports compared to the 4 ports and Memory card slots on the $499 version. Otherwise the two models are pretty much the same now.

These use hardware emulation as well so even the PS2 games that will play on either system work best on this group. The new that could play PS2 games used software emulation instead.

That's true. These systems usually get a premium even though they are older/used because of this.

I wish Sony would quit removing ps3 features while 'increasing HD size' instead of cutting the price. It's worse because I couldn't care less what size HD I got with my PS3, they are easily upgraded with a pc hard drive. With the amount of games that require manditory install that are coming (i/e basically all of them) a huge HD on PS3 is basically required. Hence the 'new' 160 gig PS3 coming out soon for $500, but no bc.
