    what's the deal with this? Is it just an attempt to cash in, or is it a legitimate part of the Star Wars franchise?

    Both. It's an introduction 'movie' for the new Clone Wars TV show.

    I don't know how it's going to relate to the old Clone Wars tv show, though. The animation is clearly styled after it, but they are all CG this time. The old Clone Wars was freaking awesome though, so perhaps this movie and new show will be too.

    Huh. I didn't know there was an old much less new Clone Show. Looks like a kids' thing, not that there's anything wrong with that.

    My kids are pretty excited about it. I have to admit that I will probably watch the series with them.

    That's pretty much the reason I'm asking. My six year old really wants to see the movie, but he knows absolutely nothing about the trilogies. I wonder how much of the story he'll need to know in order to understand the movie.

    Probably none and he will most likely get a kick out of it from the sights and sounds.
