If you take the view that religion is flawed, irrational, organized superstition and is actually a detriment to our society, it would be very easy to see the reason to actively argue/work against it.

Religion as an institution, or religion as a belief system? The two are not the same, in my opinion.

As a belief system it is no more flawed than the lack of a belief system. At some point you have to believe that something miraculous happened to create life as we know it. The only difference is what you believe was the motivation for that miracle. How is a huge cosmic accident any more believable than a divine intervention.

As an institution, religion has not always been true to its own mores.

Interesting how you can't stay out of this and have to try to defend GH.

Again, he's the one that came out and said nobody should be arguing their belief, not me.

Debate is a synonym for argue. I have read your "lively debates" and they are actually 'heated arguments'.

That's what all christians say. The rest of the world, in general, disagrees.

Just out of curiousity, as a christian, do you actually believe that the world is only 12,000 years old?

It's more about the battle against anti-intellectualism or irrational thought. Religious beliefs, be they organized or personal, can be considered to fall into that territory. Pseudoscience, New Ageism, UfOlogy, Cryptozoology, Astrology, "Natural Medicine: etc. are also under "attack" from many of the same Atheist/Humanist/Skeptical community.

As I said in a previous post you didn't read:
Dude, if the above is any indicator, clearly you've barely even read this thread.

BTW, 'argue' is a synonym for the verb debate, but not for the noun.

Religion and intellectualism aren't mutually exclusive, unless you first close your mind to the possibilty of religious beliefs being potentially true. If you've already made up your mind, then it's just an attack on someones beliefs. I consider mysel a rational thinker, and those who know me, I believe, would say the same. I don't believe my spirtuality is irrational.

And you're the one who said he doesn't argue about religion.

    How about fiction.

I wasn't aware I was responsible for reading and recalling every single thing you post, Dude.

Well I thought it was the other way around but didn't check and either way it doesn't matter, however I guarantee you looked it up. We are arguing semantics when everyone knows you and Tharan argue over christianity.

I don't argue religion, I am arguing that GH does argue religion...and winning.
