Clever, but I'm actually interested in people's thoughts on that. What are some genuinely hilarious Hollywood movies from the last decade or so?

I thought Wedding Crashers was great, but it's only good for one watch and it's also one that has the cliche romantic comedy twist (although I thought it worked.) Sounds like you're not a Will Ferrell fan, me neither. And don't insinuate that I ever found Dane Cook funny, to be fair I've never even watched his stand up because I just can't be bothered.

Anchorman had a couple of great scenes but as a whole was very overrated.

The last 'Hollywood' movie that I thought was flat-out hilarious was Harold and Kumar Go to White Castle. Well, Jackass 2 was funny as hell but obviously a different type of 'comedy' and not for everyone. Borat had it's moments. I thought Clerks 2 was very funny, actually.

Most of my current humor comes from listening to Artie Lange on the Howard Stern show, I think he's as 'quick' as anyone out there and the way he brings humor back from conversations hours previous is genius. I agree that most hollywood blockbusters aren't very well crafted, and all too often take the easy way out by turning sappy towards the end.

Sean of the Dead was funny, but being from the UK does it count?

I agree with your feelings on hyped up movies, people were one step short of telling me Superbad could cure aids, but it wasn't that funny. Ditto for Napoleon Dynamite.

Wedding Crashers had its moments then they get to mansion and outside of the motorboat joke the movie went off the rails. Will Ferrell's cameo was funny, but not enough to save it.

    Supertroopers was hilarious.

I know people probably hated it, but I really thought Accepted was funny.

Forgetting Sarah Marshall was great, especially if you are a fan of Kristen Bell. They take so many shots at her career.

Wedding Crashers was funny, but too long. Dodgeball was great, that is one of the funniest movies I've seen in a long time. Rip Torn is awesome.

Anchorman was funny, but it is more fun to quote than to watch again.

Adam Sandler has been hit or miss, but I loved Waterboy and Happy Gilmore.

Thank You For Smoking was great too, as was Office Space.

A lot of those I haven't seen and can't judge, but of the ones I have I would consider some to be good movies (Incredibles, O' brother, etc) but not exactly hilarious. Even stuff like Office Space and Big Lebowski are clever, but nothing I've actually laughed out loud from, unlike plenty of TV shows. Team America did, but as Tet said about Jackass, that's sort of a different kind of comedy. Plus there are a lot of movies on that list that I didn't find funny in the slightest.

    DJ_Tet:
To each his own, but I found Wedding Crashers to be a mindless waste of time. It wasn't funny at all, and the boobies didn't stick around long enough. I'm with you on Harold and Kumar, though. Neal Patrick Harris alone was worth it. 2 was a little disappointing, although the bottomless party was cool.

As for Artie, I wish he'd take a sabbatical from the show. He's completely fucking up the flow by constantly interrupting Howard and I probably laugh more from his snoring than his wit. He used to be a great fit, but now I just get tired of his bullshit and his lame attempts to hit on every woman who walks in the studio. I cried like a river from Fred's "Zero point zero", though.

    presidence:
Shaun of the Dead is a good example, although not Hollywood. That was a genuinely funny movie. I don't know why the retards in California think that parodies have to be like the Scary Movies. Hot Fuzz was a big let down, though.

I don't know, maybe comedy just works better in short TV-length segments, but it seems like there were more genuinely funny movies in the '80s. My memory could be playing tricks on me.

    Powerbait:
    Dodgeball was pretty funny.

OT but Artie definitely needs a sabbatical. His recent revelation that he's been using heroin for the last 7 weeks (yeah right) and his 'out-patient' rehab is just a recipie for disaster. I don't look forward to the day he dies, but if he doesn't care why should I? As far as his hitting on women (and subsequently hating them when they don't want his fat greasy ass) has grown older than old. A lot of his schtick has worn thin, but as far as a reactionary comic he still has his moments.

I agree that Dodgeball was pretty funny. I guess the question is what are your favorite comedies, Collin? Bernie Mac passing away recently reminded me of his classic role in Friday (before I even knew who he was.)

edit: I was pretty disappointed in the Harold and Kumar sequel, but it was tons better than say, Next Friday. I wrote a review of it on this site somewhere.

I couldn't really think of any, which prompted the question. I'm not much of a movie watcher anyway, but I've been wishing for some good comedies lately and they all seem to be disappointing. (and yeah, Friday was a classic)
