Fox didn't say much, but Delhomme stating that Fox said "there'd be no retaliation" and Gantt noting that the D was wanting to fuck him up isn't a great sign. Sucker punching a teammate while on the sidelines could probably have been handled better, all told.

I don't know about cutting him, despite my want to react to it and say we can't stand to have this on our team. The worst thing is that, as a captain last year, there was the idea that he was becoming a team leader, and certainly we all thought he was past this part of his life.

There was a play just minutes before the fight where Smitty went flying. He got up saying something to Lucas. That probably was the initiating event. I'm looking through my pics to see what I caught.

Edit. I was taking 3 shot bursts. Got the lead up but not the contact. And one of the staff block the view in the last of the 3. Sorry.

Let's all take off our social services hats for a while, until we know a little more.

I love this argument "WELL, YOU WOULDN'T WALK UP TO YOUR CO-WORKER'S CUBE AND PUNCH HIM, WOULD YOU!?" Yea, because working your little shitty ass cube-job is just like flying around at full speed, knocking heads with others.

It sounds like Smitty did a shitty thing, and he will get plenty of attention over it.

I agree--Smitty has not gone through this miraculous transformation. He's a shithead, and a hot head. Just not sure cutting him makes this team any better, or improves anything at all, other than opponents chances to royally fuck us in the ass.

Tampa would sign him in an instant.

releasing Smith is not an option. Period.

I wasn't there, and I did not see how it evolved. My guess is, other than blackcatfan, no one else on this board witneessed it. Let's hold off on the lynchmob mentality. No doubt Smith was wrong for slugging Lucas--the team will punish him accordingly.

There is no place for brawling with your teammates in practice--my guess is the message will be sent loud and clear.

The chances of us cutting him are about the same as the Panthers signing me to replace him.

I doubt this is even a suspension. Fine him and make him due laps til he pukes.

This is hardly the first time someone threw a punch in the heat of training camp. Happens every camp. Smith threw the first punch, connected, instead of throwing his fist against Lucas' helmet.

I definitely wasn't suggesting Smith be released.

Then, or now. I do agree with Collin that unprovoked attacks are a serious sign and Smith definitely has a history.

It's really disappointing to read this the more I think about it.

edit: It's on all the major Sports sites now, this story won't be swept under the rug. Smitty is a much bigger national prescence than he was during the Bright incident or the Texans incident. Plus media is hungry for a new football story other than Favre.
