they're both fairly intense, and lucas is physical, so I can see where it'd come from.
But it having happened on the sideline is kinda disturbing.

Glad to read they 'made up' at the end. I guess Lucas is gonna have a black eye for FanFest tomorrow.

lol cut steve smith, teach him a lesson

Is there a thread here from his Bright incident? Or after he kicked that Texan costing us the game? I'm sure plenty of people were calling for his spot on the team.

Predictably, John Fox had little to say about Friday morning's sideline brawl between WR Steve Smith and CB Ken Lucas.

Two of the team's highest-paid stars were engaged in a nasty fight, with Smith clocking Lucas in the face. The corner was on one knee when Smith punched him from above.
Lucas was hauled off the field with an obvious facial injury, while Smith was shepherded around by WR Muhsin Muhammad, K John Kasay and chaplian Mike Bunkley before GM Marty Hurney escoted him off the field.

"There was an altercation, and it will be dealt with internally," said Fox, who was standing a few feet away. "Any time something happens, it's disappointing, but it's part of football, and we'll deal with it."

No word yet on Lucas' condition, or Smith's punishment.

But if Jeremy Bridges got two games for waving a gun at a stripper last year, it's hard to imagine Smith suiting up when the Panthers open the regular season in San Diego.

I called for Smith to be cut then and I wouldn't object if they decided to do it now. Physically attacking people without warning is an indication of severe emotional problems and shouldn't be swept under the rug. I guess this kind of erases all those comments people made about how much Smith had grown up and matured.

    best write up ever...

Lucas apparently missed the memo: Chuck Norris wears Steve Smith pajamas to bed. This is the same man who put a beating on teammate Anthony Bright back in 2002, so Lucas should have known better. Smith reconciled with Lucas after the fight, and the two briefly exchanged a hug. We'd be afraid not to select Smith in our fantasy drafts later this summer.
