I heard that you can build a Network with a PC based server that allows Macs and PC's to share files. Is that true? Is it possible to do the same with a Mac server? Any advantages either way?

    way to add value y2b.

Yes, you can have the two coexisting.
Macs have software that let's them talk to a Windows Server, Windows Servers have had Mac services too(rudimentary, they don't get a lot of attention as the clients can emulate a windows client well and there just aren't enough Macs connecting to Windows Servers to justify a large effort there), and you can run the free services for unix to allow a Windows Server to look like a Unix/Linux box so that modern Macs can connect to it as such that way too.
For a Windows PC to connect to a Mac Server is another thing - I believe a Mac server can function as an SMB server (basically look like a Windows server), and I believe there is Windows PC client software for connecting to a Mac, and a Mac server is basically a Unix/Linux box so you can definitely connect using the free services for unix on a windows PC.

But I've actually never seen any of that done - there are SO few Mac servers in use, and they're usually dedicated to Mac users when they are used...

I would think Macs are too snooty to talk to a pc.

    ok fine bootay...

we're running a mac os x server, a windows xp workstation, 3 windows 2000 servers, and about 7 macs and a 2 TB network drive running windowsxp.... and they all love each other... our mac file server is also running a sync program, an archival program, and hosting the web site & ftp...

but of course the the windows 2000 servers are running pc maclan...

we also have a new pc server in the building and it's serving about 10 pc's off a different domain, but everybody gets along fine

Thanks for the input, guys. Of course, I was kinda hoping you'd say it couldn't all be done... this just means now there are more decisions to be made.
